I know it is most likely time to stop hoping but when you see that low spinning in the Gulf there have been times we have had surprises so I will keep hope alive.

Never seen anything like this, Pea size sleet in the middle of a thunderstorm. CHECK IT OUT! I hope it is alright to post here because it does have to do with this system and it is not like there is a lot going on in the forum at the moment. Thundersleet is trending on Twitter so if you have an account, there is some very interesting videos there now.

I was surprised to find snow falling in Oak Ridge in the mountains up above Oakridge, on the plateau, covered in white

We ended up with a little under half an inch but just a couple of blocks over they had none. Radar now has blown up again we will see if we can keep some mood flakes going.

Ground turning white in West Knox in Crestwood Hills. Got stuck under a band that keeps running right over the area.

We are getting a rather heavy burst of sleet or snow grains in West Knoxville. Hardly anything showing on radar. Kind of surprising.

I see MRX just took even their less than .05 in chance of snow OUT of my area in West Knox. It does seem like we have a better chance of getting a stray band in NWF events when we have a slightly more northern component but who knows? It is hard to get any accumulation in these situations when you are right in the middle of the valley.

- Pretty good snow coming down now in West Knoxville. Our roads are solid white and we have large flakes coming down.

Just saw my first flakes very small and few but maybe we can get a little. We will see.

Love snow cover like this. Something we rarely see in the TN Valley. Very beautiful pictures. We have some heavy returns over us now but we have some very dry air trapped in the valley and nothing is reaching the ground at present.

The 2 storm total’s combined for 2.25 inches. You can’t beat that for Christmas week with snow now being on the ground since Thursday night.

Just a reminder. If you have a space heater set in a room for pipes that might be vulnerable to the cold you might check them after a rolling blackout. My heater is was set in my garage and the auto shut off does not turn back on after a power outage. It had gotten very cold in the room very fast.

With all the hopes of a historic event changing the dynamics of the system it turned out very typical in regard to how it unfolded for the valley. Rain was pouring down and as soon as the front moved in, the moisture cut off like a switch.

Also sorry for quoting you twice, but that makes me wonder about all the trapped low level moisture stuck in the valley that doesn't fully dry from downsloping. I think that could ignight in the same manner and not even be seen on radar.
With extreme cold events some very wild things can happen with “trapped” moisture. I have seen the steam coming off the BowWater paper mill in Charleston TN form low clouds and put down a half inch of snow in the parking lot and front area of the plant.

I do think we are in Un-modeled territory in that this is really a historic event. Haveing said that living here all my life I have seen the power of the Plateau to wreck some big storms,
