  1. Me too. They have some strong posters there as Radders said but is like reading DT's facepage page Its simply a very populated area with lots of people posting. Honestly I'd dread doing that commute everyday. Driving? Forget it. Drive to the train, train to Hobbo, PATH, Subway I would if I had to but its like having a second job... I'm at the point .I can;t stand going to Rockland every day now.To the guys who do the city run every day, you have my respect. . What are you guys expecting tomorrow? 4 - 8 sounds good to me at this time.
  2. Ok I see where the different is. I am assuming the model extract shows raw qpf output and the sounding I posted uses the Cobb snowfall algorithm bufkit add in. Maybe the algorithm manipulates the qpt to adjust for "noise" or nonproductive qpt that evaporates before reaching the ground. The extraction shows qpf for a much long time compared to the sounding. Maybe a met can chime in and explain. http://ams.confex.com/ams/WAFNWP34BC/techprogram/paper_94815.htm
  3. 12Z Nam KSWF cut the qpt to .49 and prints out 8' of snow relying on mega ratios
  4. 12Z NAM bufkit totals for kswf below lol.I just hope for a few inches to cover the ice pack.
  5. Happy New Year to the Hudson Valley crew!!
  6. I seen that eariler. In the other thread I seen it dismissed because it was in the Post. What most of them didn't realize was that the informtion that was reported in the pper came from a NYC Councilmen.
  7. Upton snowfall map for the storm Full report recap and map here http://www.erh.noaa.gov/okx/StormEvents/storm12262010.html
  8. Nice, winds were pretty calm last night. I hit 11F
  9. Agree with the expectation of major issues and I disagree that this effort was on par with what was done during past storms. The city knows how to handle large storms like clockwork for the last 30 something years, it didn't this time. The 96' blizzard was worse. I lived on SI at the time, sure it wasn't normal for days after but most streets including deadends were plowed with in 24 hours so PD, FD could get thru. I think Governor Rendell likes to make over the top statements to get on cable talk shows. He would have had different thoughts after 78,000 people hit the highway and were stranded during a blizzard. Either way he'd be on the cable shows
  10. I read somewhere that the SUV belonged to the city IDK how true that is but that display was disgraceful. I'm watching the news after the football game on Ch 4 out of NYC Still they have major issues. It’s really out of character. Since Koch and Rudy and even Bloomberg up to now NYC has handled snow like champs. There is a bunch of things at play that lead to this mess. NYC is near bankruptcy and Bloomy has cut services to the bone and don’t discount the possibility of a possible union action due to the amount of layoffs and demotions that have occurred with their budget cuts. I think the city canceled the contracts that they use to have that mobilized private companies to bring in heavy equipment to clear the city. I recall seeing huge earth movers, huge bulldozers with 6 foot tires on my street and on other streets of Staten Island when I lived there after a storm. I lived on an unknown street and we were always plowed out within hours of a huge storm.
  11. The snow has compacted nicely today, a lot less blowing snow and easier walking thru it 33F ATM NSFW NYC sanitation workers destroy a Ford Explorer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt_r-jO3lKE
  12. A little OT but some of us are originally from the city. They were slammed Watching some of the news coverage on the NYC channels, man they had issues with this storm. Video of abandoned cars, buses, emergence vehicles, people stranded on highways in the city for 12 hours all over the city looked like the opening for The Walking Dead. Surreal for sure. I lived in the city for 40 something years and I don't think I've ever seen widespread issues as this storm caused. Maybe John Lindsey's snow storm will be replaced by this Bloomburg Storm. Can't help but thinking the budget and people making decisions to travel in a blizzard played a role.
  13. I had to retreat in to the house a few times when clearing the drive. Just to cold and blowing the powder was insane. No matter when I positioned the shoot I was blasted with it. I drove one of my Daughters to work at Macys. I can't believe they opened and her Civic wouldn't have cut it. . The mall parking lot had 20 cars total. The roads range from ok to a disaster. Scotchtown road is bad in spots from Goshen to Rt 211, RT211 is ok but by the Mall it’s bad, the road into the mall is a disaster. Rt !7 from Rt 211 to Goshen is generally ok with some spots of blown snow on the road, ramps are a challenge . RT 207 in Goshen is a mess. I had 5.5 inches for my reported reading last evening. I cleared the snow from the area. Today I recorded 14.9 inches in the same place. Not sure what I am going to report. Surprised it was so high but that band that hit after midnight was wild. I can’t imagine what the totals are in areas that had banding for most of the storm.
  14. Not looking forward to going outside. Wow we got clocked after midnight.
  15. Best snow of the storm falling now. Banding finaly made it west to me. Complete powder whiteout. I can see the light on the house across the road but not the house. Sweet!
  16. Ramped up here again, I wonder if our location at the fringes of ALB, OKX and BGM radar combined with powdery snow lessen the returns
  17. Looks like its building again, very close to you again EDIT the very next frame it pulsed down again
  18. Thats the way its supposed to be. We are in the age of the super wraped up coastal bomb and we now get leftovers. That graupel crap we had all afternoon was a strong sign this wouldn't be super great for us. I guess I'll pickup about 10' when all is said and done maybe.
  19. The heavy band that has been sitting on top of eastern Orange Co is collapsing faster then the Giants playoff chances- Its all the back to Rockland and fading fast
  20. You are in the running for highest total here
  21. CTZ005-NJZ002-004-103-105-107-NYZ067>070-270415- NORTHERN FAIRFIELD-WESTERN PASSAIC-EASTERN PASSAIC-WESTERN BERGEN- WESTERN ESSEX-WESTERN UNION-ORANGE-PUTNAM-ROCKLAND- NORTHERN WESTCHESTER- 816 PM EST SUN DEC 26 2010 ..DANGEROUS BLIZZARD CONDITIONS IN NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY AND LOWER HUDSON VALLEY... A PERSISTENT BAND OF VERY HEAVY SNOW CONTINUES ACROSS THE REGION THROUGH 11 PM...LIKELY REMAINING NEARLY STATIONARY. SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR ARE EXPECTED...AND OCCASIONALLY 2 TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR AS THESE BANDS BRIEFLY INTENSIFY. NORTH WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH FREQUENT GUSTS 35 TO 45 MPH WILL ACCOMPANY THE HEAVY SNOW. THIS WILL ALSO HAVE WINDCHILLS HOVERING IN THE SINGLE DIGITS THROUGH THIS EVENING. THE COMBINATION OF HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS WILL CREATE WIDESPREAD BLIZZARD CONDITIONS...WITH CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW...AND FREQUENT WHITEOUT CONDITIONS. MOTORISTS SHOULD AVOID ALL UNNECESSARY TRAVEL. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION AND TAKE ALONG A WINTER SURVIVAL KIT. A BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT. $$
  22. Just came back in from clearing the driveway. The heavy band east of Chester in Orange hasn't moved. It tries to move west and gets crushed but I have a wall of snow falling now. picked up 7". Although I am sheltered from the winds somewhat, the snow is blowing. Great improvement from earlier crap. This stuff is now powder The precip field appears to be pivoting now towards the west/northwest. 21F
  23. Welcome back! Glad you're getting some good snow!
