1. Guys in the southern valley might want to keep an eye on the Saturday severe across the south. MRX even mentioned that if the central valley had a little more CAPE it would be interesting

.
Saturday or Friday? It looks like Saturday will be clearing out and turning cooler.

2. Essentially only down around Chattanooga is it around an inch. Though I don't fully understand considering it depicted snow the entire time, so must be accounting on some mixing to occur there. Chattanooga aside it's roughly the same 3-4" with some spots going 5-6".695d61c7865ffca574db829c0d84f164.jpg

If it actually pans out like this run, it won't even be laughable anymore. Chattanooga is in a little snow dome with a dusting and the entire state getting 2"-5"+. I guess if it does happen, all we can do down here is shrug our shoulders and carry on!

3. I really have nothing to add to these conversations. I'm basically good for ground reports if it snows or we get severe weather or flooding rains. With that said, I appreciate everyone on here we with the knowledge ya'll share and the great discussions.

4. Tonight could be dicey in the Mid-South. Ingredients are there as a LLJ interacts with warm front. Mess mode could be a saver overnight.
Thursday daylight is mainly an Arkansas (and points southwest) event. However an organized squall line QLCS should slam into the Mid-South late Thursday night. Line survives into Friday morning...
Key to Friday is the LLJ hanging around long enough. Some NWP ejects the backed part of it in a hurry, which would still leave a line of thunderstorms and straight line wind. Low and mid-level winds remain strong all day Friday, which would support severe.
Tornado question has a lot to do with if the backed portion of the LLJ remains in East Tennessee and North Georgia into Friday afternoon. I'm not sure for what I wish. Chaser on a Friday. Keep family safe any day. My gut says just wind East Tenn. Makes it a moot point.
Work is going to be fun in the morning. The weather alarm went off so many times and kept waking us up. The tornado warning is what got us out of bed. Warning has expired now but work alarm is set for 3:45a.m. I can't wait.

5. Trying to figure out if I take the older kiddos to Sewanee or Monterey on Sunday. Those are my favorite snow-chasing destinations on the plateau. Would love to be able to keep a drive within a few hours.
I say take them to Chattanooga. What could possibly go wrong in our area?

6. The question I have is, when is John leaving to watch the super bowl in Chatty?  I'm planning my snowman around that.
It seems John is a pretty good luck charm for our area. He seems to bring some cotton balls from the sky with him over the years. This kind of set-up has surprised Chattanooga a few times over the last 15 years. I would like another surprise for Super Bowl. Not expecting anything at all but these things can be sneaky.

7. You can check the weather station link in my signature, but my neighborhood is just to the east of the Weigles right as you enter Halls on north Broadway.  There are quite a few weather stations in the valleys and ridges around here on Weather Underground.  I forgot you're in Fountain City!
Pipeman! I was near your neck of the woods last weekend. We came up Friday through Monday and stayed near the top of Gatlinburg in Chalet Village. A little off topic , I know, but wanted to wish you and everyone on this forum a Merry Christmas!

Pro tip: I'm sure all you locals know this but the steak I had Friday at Conner's in Turkey Creek was one of the best restaurant steaks I've ever had. Carry on!!

8. We were sitting at a solid 44° with calm winds for awhile. Temp has actually risen to 45.2°. I walked out back and looked at the sky. It's a weird sky. We had a light drizzle going on earlier and now it's almost clear and there are some super super low clouds racing across the sky. The weird thing is the clouds are moving fast in a South to North direction. I haven't checked the official wind direction in the Chattanooga area but there's no doubt they are low and flying by S to N.

Edit to add: official current conditions in Ooltewah has winds from the south at 7 mph. This could explain the rise in temp.

9. I’m currently sitting at 44.1 with gust out of the west in Sweetwater. We may see a faster changeover here than anticipated

10. We really need some rain. We have fescue and our yard is the best it's looked in the 6 years we've been here. With that said, one side of our yard heading to the back sits in the sun 90% of the day. It's starting to struggle as it usually does in the heat. My front and other side is still lush, thick and green. I'm almost to the point of just keeping the good area green year round and basically trying to keep the sun baked side alive but not worrying about trying to keep it as nice as the front.

11. I think the higher elevation mountains are going to do well this weekend. I say this because of what I just experienced. Don't think I'm crazy but when I was leaving Volkswagen at 2:35 out of nowhere an ice cold wind started whipping up. It went from dry to a pretty heavy rain shower instantly. As I was leaving in my vehicle the temp dropped to 41° on the car. The rain had some big snowflakes mixed in with it for maybe 5 minutes. As I approached the Ooltewah exit the rain stopped and within a few minutes my car thermometer had risen to 46°. I checked when I got home and I had a reading of 46.3°. I'm saying this because it was a total shock to see flakes flying in the lower elevation, even if it was for only a few minutes. It's like the sudden burst of rain had a cold core in it and the flakes were reaching the ground under an intense band of precip.

12. The snow is about wrap up here. Radar returns look like we might have a few minutes remaining. Nice little 2" snow for Ooltewah. We finally have a white ground without all the grass sticking out. I did 10 measurements around the yard and my board. 2" average. Can't really get accurate readings in the yard with the grass underneath the snow. Congrats to the folks from Athens and north! Y'all had an exceptional Winter!

These are pictures of our small snow. I want to see the big dog pictures from John1122 Stovepipe and others!6bd70cb0a8351697f02d7ca8419559be.jpgbee8ec2466e59106a6e9a3aa77ca6b47.jpgf8fe8210b160d3a787cfb1800a2529ea.jpg

13. I don't know what to make of that on the radar but not falling. I've seen the opposite but never seen that in the middle of a storm.
We were in a lull over 1 hour with just a few flurries. It just started back a few minutes ago. It's the powder type snow but at least it's coming down again. Hopefully we can squeeze out an inch or 2. I guess I can't complain considering where we live. Originally I said I'd be happy to see snow coming down. If we get a few inches that will be a win for us!

14. The concrete must be much cooler than the asphalt. All our driveway and sidewalks are covered but the road is just wet. 32.4°.

We seem to be in a lull. Very small flakes and not coming down hard at all. It went from fatties to almost nothing. I really hope it kicks back up. I don't trust the radar returns as it can show really heavy rain and snow here when actual ground reports are light.

15. Progress of the CC drop has stalled out and I remain mostly sleet. That’s pretty discouraging.
That's crazy because you aren't that far from me. I'm 1 mile from the Ooltewah exit. Roof tops are white, cars are white and it's finally sticking to the grass. The mulch turned white fast. You should be all snow any minute I would think
