LWX early map has Deep Creek area in the 5-8” specks. Easily thinking 3-6”+ at this point.

I've been traveling elsewhere and absent for the past 3 weeks, looking forward to a promising return this weekend.  A lot of firewood on my porch to get rid of before we break out the patio furniture for summer.

It's all about pretending to be hillbilly.

You can’t fake it up here, but I have gotten surprisingly good at it and made some friends in unlikely places.  People are motivated by different things up here for sure though.  The early lessons were hard.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM EST THIS
    AFTERNOON...

    * WHAT...Snow showers and squalls expected. Total snow
accumulations of 2 to 3 inches. Winds will gust up to 50 mph,
which may briefly create localized near blizzard conditions.

Yesterday wasn’t shabby either.  Was up overnight to reload the firewood with crystal clear skies and bright moonlight. Seems like another world entirely this morning.

0.8” of rain on the day at Deep Creek.  Temp is 54 degrees - looks like a few hours away from the cold coming through.

Piles of standing water over here.  Suspect the ground remains frosty below the surface.  Going to be an epic mud season up here.

Yep, I mentioned that to RIC_WX a few days ago when I saw that NS vort/clipper moving through the NE.  It screamed for upslope setup for the mountains.

Amazing call.  Snuck up today at zero dark thirty for the first visit in 2 weeks.  Trying to coax the remainder of the crew up for the weekend.  Guess we'll see.

We’re hosting my family this weekend including 6 nieces and nephews who want to play in the snow.

Hopefully it works out OK.  WISP has been sold out of snow tubing for this weekend for a couple weeks already.  Happy they managed to salvage a decent season after a disasterous start.

We are on the fence this weekend with projects in flight in both places.  The mild wx argues for sticking closer to home.

I was just coming here to post the same. There’s plenty of -15 to -19 showing up across Deep Creek this morning which is really impressive.

Oddly enough, mine got down to 2.7 earlier overnight but has been rising ever since as high as 7 - which is consistently the same for the other McHenry stations - I’m wondering if there’s some kind of mini inversion since the McHenry stations are at 2800+ in elevation vs near the lake which is 100-200 feet lower.  A station in McHenry on Wisp Mountain is at +9 while a station right across the lake 175 feet lower is at -9.  Pretty crazy temp gradient!

We bottomed out at -11.8 here.  On the ride in from I-68 along MD 495 the temperature fluctuated from a high of +10 to a low of -11 all within a couple of miles.  Was still -7 when I arrived but all the way to +8 now.  Impressive cold!

NWS adjusted predicted low temperatures for overnight (higher) today for Deep Creek area and Potomac Highlands.  Official forecast is now zero, my PWS is already +1 with multiple surrounding stations below zero.

As the lake is now frozen, many of the usually warmer lakefront PWS are leading the way this evening.

I was watching that camera earlier and it was legit white-out conditions.  I'm happy for Canaan and Deep Creek - they sure needed this after the atrocious start.

I picked a good day for (remote) remote work.  Now we set our sights for clear skies and a shot at sub zero temps.  I got to beat +1.9 for the seasonal low

Why would you buy at the lake, vs in Davis or Canaan which gets 2x as much snow out of every storm, has actual vertical relief, and is easily accessible from the Byrd Superhighway?

Of course, land there isn't any cheaper right now, and it's also a 2 year wait minimum to build. So instead of sitting in my slopeside house, I get to ski by my slopeside empty lot and stay in the Canaan Valley Lodge. First world problems, I suppose. 20" of new snow made for pretty good 1200 vert glade skiing today.

Nothing against Davis.  Deep Creek is like Leesburg west.  We have quite the extended social network here.  My kiddos find WISP plenty intimidating and neither the wife nor I are really capable to ski.  We are from RIC after all, no one in our xennial cohort grew up skiing.
