  1. Okay, I would try this based on giant cartoon artichoke on the label alone...just sayin'.
  2. Something wicked this way comes. Not really, though -- that was about 10 minutes ago, and the dark clouds in advance proved to be more bark than bite, as we're just getting a breezy hard shower right now, with a couple peeks of sun already on the backside of it.
  3. As are those isolated I and X brood clumps in SW Virginia....very weird.
  4. 77 here, with several peeks of sun within past 30 minutes, and clear blue skies visible in the west....let's see how we do.
  5. While I'd certainly like to avoid in the future the widespread power outages and damage we experienced in the June 2012 derecho, that event tops my list of best/most interesting wx phenomena I've experienced since moving to NoVA 30 years ago. The March 3, 2018 sustained high wind event is a close second.
  6. Are you pleased with the Tempest kit? How long installed? I've read about this a few times in recent months, and I'm intrigued...have thought about pulling the trigger on it once or twice, but haven't heard a lot of "real world" feedback.
  7. You got a great angle on the edge of that gust front. I tried to capture the speed of it on video with "meh" results -- doubling the playback speed shows motion better. It was definitely hauling ass, and I could hear the increasing roar of the wind to the west, about five minutes before it slammed Hayfield.
  8. Northernmost line approaching LWX definitely looking more raggedy than an hour ago, however....the strongest portion does appear to be taking a bead on the area just north of the District, so maybe you guys are indeed in play.
  9. This turned out really nice....and it's a perfect spot to hear the water playing in the fountains while sitting on the deck, very soothing. Well done!!
  10. If so, then that swarm and the incoming line of storms are gonna meet head-on directly over our heads within the hour...maybe playing out a couple scenes from "Independence Day."
  11. Same here over past hour, but clearing again just to the south and temp back up to 91. Planes taking off from DCA's southern end, which sometimes takes them directly over our neighborhood when heading W or SW, are pulling off some interesting banks and turns right now, no doubt trying to avoid the fun to our N and W. Related -- any idea what that feedback is streaming in from the coast, just north of (I think?) @CAPE's location?
  12. You finally identified a few posts back this specific owl species that's been stalking my backyard, @Stormfly....and then I finally caught one on camera last night just a few minutes after midnight! Video quality is meh (it's a Blink camera), but you can see it fly in at lower left, probably going after a frog or mouse on the patio. I was excited to capture this, as I've only ever seen them as swooping silhouettes in past years!
  13. Yep....the wx radio just started doing its happy dance. Forgot I had the volume raised and it just about blew me out of my office chair.
  14. As a far bigger fan of the franchise you cited, I'm ticked that nobody's been able to do some sort of calendar mash-up with "Live long and prosper."
  15. THIS is why I've loved watching hockey since I was a kid...especially the Flyers back then (thugs on ice).
  16. Not sure why LWX is down, but for the record -- I don't care for the new NWS radar. It takes forever to load and I just don't like how it displays. I don't mean to sh*t on others' hard work, as I know they had to replace the legacy radar with something, but.... I now generally prefer to use Windy.com for radar if I'm at the laptop or, of course, Radarscope on mobile.
  17. Ahhhh, Depeche Mode. You're bringing back the memories of working the DJ graveyard shift at the college radio station (the shift nobody wanted!), serving up all of those awesome alternative/new wave tunes from the 80s. Also, never heard of the Silversun Pickups, but good tune...so thanks! Many, many emergence holes around my property...have seen a few holes in surrounding blocks...but haven't actually seen any nymphs or heard any of the adults yet.
  18. Same readings here -- clear with full sun and definitely muggy out there.
  19. I know, right? To your earlier point -- it is definitely muggy out there, still. Gonna miss a damn good chance to rain if it doesn't.
  20. You're way ahead of me, and spot-on guess in advance...5.7% ABV. And I like your proposition to improve this blend. I would generally agree with you, although that didn't temper my excitement to try this. Again, it was sort of like a trippy flavor rave going on inside my mouth. Not horrible....not great. First time I tried a beer in many years that made me screw my face up once upon that first sip! Agree 500% -- Ocelot is always effing amazing! We visited their mothership location a couple weeks ago, always great stuff.
  21. Recording these for the crafty brew lovers out there. Grabbed each of these in a four-pack on a Costco run last week. I was really looking forward to trying the Old Bust Head stout and it was...interesting. And not in a necessarily good way. I think there's a little too much going on for me to truly fall in love with it -- for my taste buds, I'd keep either the caramel macchiato OR the orange vanilla in the stout presentation, but probably NOT mash all four together. I'll "hate-drink" the last three cans of it, but won't buy again. (BTW, this impression does not apply generally to OBH's stouts -- we've had several from there in recent years and they are generally top notch.) The Adroit Theory hazy IPA was perfection, as their IPAs usually are -- phenomenally good. Perhaps I'll hide the rest of the Adroit Theory's and let Mrs. V work on the rest of those Old Bust Head stouts.. While it's not necessarily convenient for all in the sub, if you have the chance to visit the mothership locations for OBH (in Vint Hill) or Adroit Theory (in Purcellville), I strongly recommend that you do -- each brewery keeps an outstanding selection of fresh/interesting taps at all times.
  22. Yeah, but....such a gorgeous piece of land right now! I know I've said it before, but that firepit area is just a drool-worthy addition to your yard (ANY yard).
  23. UGH. My final bitch/moan about the neighbor's maple spinners....but the LAST of 'em came down last night all over the perfectly trimmed lawn. It's just like when I leave the dog out immediately after mowing, and she absolutely MUST engage in #2 on my freshly-shorn lawn. Can't the results of my hard work stay pristine for at least a few hours??
  24. Spent about six hours mowing, weeding, mulching, trimming today....it was an absolutely perfect weather day, wasn't it?
