  1. I went on a nice walk just a while ago with the cool temps and cloud cover and had no idea about showers moving in.  A decently heavy one is passing through right now -- I came pretty close to getting drenched!

  2. Just took a nice long walk at mid-day on August 1 at just 79 degrees.  That's superb!  Glad the smoke is not a ground level.

DCA has only three 95-degree days so far (all last week).  The closest station to me (3 SSW Damascus) has none and only four 90-degree days.

  3. 0.9 combined from yesterday and Friday with 4.4 total for July.  That's decent but May and June were incredibly dry and we are still about 10" below for the year.

It is a glorious 66 degrees right now and I'm gonna enjoy these next few cool mornings!

  4. Just over 0.5 to go with yesterday's 0.4.  I have a some yard clean-up to do with lots of branches down including one about 10 feet long, and one butterfly bush split in half.  I'll just cut it down to 15" and let it regenerate.

  5. Flush hit from that short-lived but strong storm!  I estimate some gust to about 50 mph and sheets of rain.  Will measure soon.  Good two day stretch for a parched area.

Sorry for those that missed out yet again

  6. OK so that one one in SW Mont Co is moving NE -- that gives me a better chance as  down-sloping doesn't kill those as much as the W-E movers.  No hail though please!  Just give me the business with rain

I dunno. I see a bunch of yellow severe storm warning boxes popping up west of 81. Looks like a firehose of storms may be headed our way. At least today looks a lot better than yesterday.

It's the higher elevations from my SW all the way around to NE.  Thunderstorms moving west to east typically split or fade right as they drop down over my area, then recover and reform just to my east.  Happens over and over and so it takes a fluke to get a TS here.  I've had one so far this summer.  We do fine during the 5-6 months of 30 to 50s and rain from November to April

  8. LOL east moving thunderstorms almost in the same place as yesterday moving my way.  I fully expect them to fade right as they arrive like yesterday and for the front to go thru dry tomorrow.  What will come though is beautiful temps from Sunday thru most of next week.  It's gonna be nice!  Get those grills ready

  9. We could hear thunder and radar had heavy rain aimed right at us for over an hour and it kept fading right as it got to us.  Nice swath of 1 inch plus amounts just to the west but only 0.1 for me.  That was a huge disappointment.

Yep I got split once again. Got the sponge wring out of a whole .02”. I am now calling it the Ballenger Creek Split as you can literally see it happening just about 3 miles out.

Dang now I see some stuff that just popped to your north moving east.  Sorry! :(

    You now have a STW!

I started to split on me and I thought here we go again.  But now it redeveloped some to my west so i'm hoping!

Looking at radar some people could get the training

I moved back to Stephens City in May.  God help me.

That confused me too since your location still says Cross Junction.  Probably too painful to change!

  13. Now they have likely shower/t-storm chances today thru Saturday.  If places score one each day this will be one easy three-day heat wave for yards and gardens!  I'll be happy with one 0.5 hit in that stretch

  14. LWX bullish on t-storms tomorrow afternoon/evening with 70% chance even for the desert area.  Not happening here but some lucky spots will cash in (congrats again AA and Balt).  Some storms might be interesting with that much heat to work with.

  15. Zilch again but I knew that last Friday's early morning thunderstorm was it for the summer here.  I envy places that got such a good dousing before going into the heat wave but I'll just run my sprinkler system hard before going to work tomorrow.  That's desert living. Next summer I'm gonna have to let go of certain plants I like and go with more drought tolerant stuff.

  16. With this (thankfully) short-lived heat wave coming I saw there's been just one 95 degree day so far (DCA).  I remember the infamous summer of 1980 so I checked it out -- 28 days 95-plus and six 100-plus!  10 of the first 11 days of Aug were 95-plus with two 100s, and the one other day was 94.  Man that was bad.  And we didn't have AC!

End of the week heat is just in time for the end of softball season and a one-day tournament on Saturday. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Oooh that's gonna be a hot one!  Not as bad as Friday but still...

    Looking nicer by Sunday maybe
