  1. Had a big yard project to do today (garden beds clean-up and mulching), and could't ask for better conditions with overcast and mid-70s.  Things are dry though with a paltry 0.27 since August 8.

I'm really happy about the beautiful weather for later this week, including Friday when we move our son into the dorm at UMD College Park.  Hoping for some rain tomorrow, but not counting on it.

Let's see how good ol' Stephens City does here.  Anyone got some CAPE numbers for central MD?  It is sooooo hot out there.

    Disgusting out there this morning

Sure is.  I was just out heavily watering my parched flower beds (no, I do not expect any rain this weekend).  Not only very muggy but very buggy too.  Damn these invasive mosquitoes that bite all day and the ticks!  I just got finished with 31 days of strong antibiotics because of one of those darn things (Lyme infection).

But fall is coming!  Football and good weather!

heh...how much you want to bet we stay high and dry all day?

I think so.  On the positive side we went into the Fri-Mon period thinking it was gonna be a washout except Friday.  Turned out to be a pretty nice weekend and sun's coming out now.

Wow has SE PA been getting killed though!  Many counties under FF warnings again for up to 4" so far and raining hard.  Glad that is not us; I just want 0.5-0.75 for the grass and gardens.

  5. I can't remember the last time the lawn was so green in mid-August!  Glad to see a little sun this morning though.

Jeb, that area of Texas you're moving to isn't as dry as I thought -- about 34" of rainfall a year compared to 41" for the DC area.  But the temps!  Average of 118 days at or above 90, and 18 at/above 100. :o  But I know some people that moved to that area and love it.

Flash flood watch day #4, once again nothing more than a brief sprinkle.  Picked up .05" last night to bring the day's total to .15" and "event" total to .65".  Brings my total since July 1 to just over 3".  Good times.

That is unreal.  The rainfall map of the last 30 days has some 2-inch totals south of the Lake Anna area, with 10-15 inch plus amounts not far to the N and NE.

  7. Main road out of Sandbridge Beach to get to the VA Beach area is still closed so we are stuck for now.  They did say that people could cut through a military base to get out but they probably want a better reason than beer runs, etc. LOL.

I wish we'd clear out so we could get some beach time and maybe get a thunderstorm.  All I've seen is rain with no lightning.  No fun in that!  Although we can't take any wind with how soaked the ground is.

Yea the NJ, DE and MD/VA beaches lucked out.  Probably real humid down there though.

Near VA Beach -- we did luck out with a nice day on Sunday, and decent yesterday.  But, our luck has run out with steady rain and looking like no break today.  Roads around here are flooded.  Gonna be board games and beer today LOL.

  9. OK is is absolutely POURING in Sandbridge Beach (few miles S of VA Beach) and has been for hours.  We went out last night and the two-way road leading to the beach had lots of areas of standing water and it wasn't even raining yesterday afternoon/evening.  People's yards on both sides had water almost up to their front doors.  I can only imagine what that road looks like now.   Yeah uh we're not going anywhere for a while.

  10. OK our luck in VA Beach has run out as we have a loooooong river of mod/hvy rain training right over us that looks to last all day.  My parents in Calvert have water coming into the finished basement due to a clogged gutter.  They fixed the gutter but the damage is done.  Hopefully not too bad.

  11. Man we lucked into a gorgeous day south of VA Beach -- full sun.  My folks in Calvert said that they've never seen so much water washing over the driveway as in that big storm around 3 PM.  I see another t-storm rolled through Germantown a while ago.  Yikes.

We have two people flying from BWI to ORF scheduled to take off at 2:55, but are sitting on the plane at the gate waiting to be cleared.  And now we have big storms developing around Norfolk. :o

7.75” in Germantown was my final total. One station reported 10”.

Thanks for posting the amounts for Germantown.  I can't believe I missed this event by a day!  We left yesterday morning for VA Beach -- had some heavy rain, especially around Williamsburg, but nothing like up there.
