The irony is it’s not like historic snowfall or anything, it’s just a solid above normal season following numerous shitty years up here. The issue is it’s also been shitty down in SNE for years and the gradient has been super sharp this season. A lot of multi-year perception in play… up here happy that it’s finally out of the rut, but down there it’s the mentality of still in the rut. Hopefully SNE breaks out next winter.

Nah, we advised 97-98” for depth. We’ll see how NWS/NOAA interprets it. Imagine, a ski resort wanting to preserve actual observations and not push for the highest possible totals lol. This near 4,000ft… At 3,000ft we are in the mid-70s for depth after 3” of dense snow today. At Stowe we are all about the data points. None of this guessing and estimating sh*t. 269” diligently measured at 3,000ft on the season.

This is the heaviest snow you can get. It is vomiting snow.

One big happy family. Personally I’m also looking forward to spring. Just need to hit 100” on the ground and then we can break out the sunscreen. 96”.

BTV at -4.2F for a monthly departure (to-date) is indicative of a cold month. The BTV ASOS observation records have leaned warm over the past 5 years. A -4 departure through the first 3 weeks of Feb? That’s a sustained cold stretch the BTV site hasn’t seen very often.

The probability maps are likely a better choice to post than deterministic, ha.

It keeps the threats going over the next two weeks. The NNE to SNE gradient has been impressive this winter, we’ll see what happens.

2012 for me. That was incredible, all elevations just getting torched and it was sunny throughout. Like 3-5 days…. The duration was impressive, gradually rising., depending on your definition of torch.

Devils Fiddle was my favorite spring trail growing up. I remember having a series of phenomenal days there on weekly trips in high school during March and April 2001. The rock bands, the sustained pitches, and back then it was alley ways through taller brush. It was like brush hallways on skiers right, after navigating the rock bands. Currently those have been cut down to one big wide open pitch... but it's a great trail.

As someone who's day lives in the world of liability, the nighttime drunk sledding being allowed or encouraged (but not facilitated) by the ski areas is mind-blowing . Just such a different litigation culture. The American legal outcome in court usually says the ski area is liable for sledding incidents if they know sledding is taking place and not actively trying to stop it.

That part of the Rockies either gets pummeled or they get nothing. There’s like no in between.

It is an incredibly effective dehumidifier, which makes for efficient cooling and summer time comfort. But in the winter that advantage doesn't translate.

It can't be your primary source of heat in the winter. It has a sweet spot in the shoulder seasons when you need some temporary warmth, and is an efficient A/C route in the summer. But consistent cold temperatures (like 20F or below on average) on heat pumps will suck up electricity to maintain temperature. I love mine all other times of the year except the depths of winter. Propane baseboard heat here for this time of year.

I don’t snowmobile recreationally to know what it’s like (I’ve only done some limited snowmobiling at the resort for getting from point A to B), but to travel 140 miles in a deep winter environment sounds intriguing. Thats covering some ground.

Yeah 2016-17 and 2018-19 both were solid. 2018-19 started in November with heavy wet paste jobs that just set the pack for the winter.

It has been a stretch of winter we haven’t seen in a bit. High of 18F here today, currently back down to 0F (it’s cold, squeaky snow) and 2+ feet on the ground here the valley bottom… 8 feet on the upper Toll Road. It’s been cold, snowy and windy for 6 weeks. The time frame is impressive.
