Large diurnal temperature ranges are the hallmark of great early warm season weather. The mountain valleys have been seeing consistent 20s at night this week, followed by 60s and 70s by day. Relative humidity's have been 10-20% at their lowest. This has led to snow preservation that's fairly good given the temperatures. Dry air like they have out west does preserve the snow... especially north or east facing aspects.
The east slope gets the afternoon shadows, while the south and west facing aspects take the solar brunt during the highest diurnal temperatures. It makes a big difference in the spring. Maximum solar exposure on these east slope areas are during the coldest diurnal time of day (sunrise and morning).

Ran into a bear cub this evening on the mountain. Thing was rolling around in the snow for a long time like my black lab. Just upside down legs up and rolling in pleasure.
Then he saw me, was a little spaz. Ran to a tree and climbed to the top, then climbed down as fast as he went up, ran back out onto the snow, rolled, then took off towards the other side of the trail.
Never saw another cub or a mother, he seemed solo. Maybe a very young guy on his own for the first time? He was smaller than my black lab but acted exactly like a puppy. Just wanted to play it seemed.

There doesn’t appear to be any days after tomorrow inland that will be below 70-72 right thru day 10. A very warm signal has emerged in the extended
Each year you seem to get more and more excited for the warm season… can feel it in the posts. Much more so than your late autumn posts going into winter. Just Fisher tweets, leaf out and warmth 24/7.

72/24
Best day yet in this series of great days.
-
67/24 with RH of 20%.... lets goooo. It's so nice outside.
Already done a 40 degree diurnal swing by noontime.
-
The classic spring diurnal charts.... 20s by night, 60s by day. Temperature rarely lingers at one value for very long, just going up and down.

Going on day 5 of just phenomenal weather.
Low of 28F again and then rising rapidly with sunrise.
Below freezing at 6:30am and then 30 degrees warmer at 9:30am approaching 60F.
Gotta love this time of year and the large diurnal swings.

you like hard freezes in May ? Lol - ... I know.
Not sure about up where you are... but down here what's likely happen is a 24 hour abrupt rebound when this unrelenting NE trade flow finally collapses. Maybe late tomorrow for you, early Wed in NYC ...est. But the stymieing to rise has less transition time, sort of right to tower temperatures in lockstep with the cold feed abatement. Machine guidance will undersell the rebound when the gradient falls to 0 and/or zephyrs in reverse.
lol to me the hard freezes signify nice weather. You don't get that without a high-diurnal trend low RH type pattern. We'll do close to a 40 degree swing today.
Ground and cars frozen white this morning with the heat on, while now doors and windows are wide open.
64F and full sun.

What a stretch it’s been. Into the low 60s already after a 27F and hard freeze again last night.
RH around 20% with dews 19-25F.

Fans look like they are dressed for winter at Fenway… was shocking to see given how nice it is here. Folks look as cold as the bats.
Full sunshine, 60s, 18% RH with dews in the teens up here.

27F last night and a very hard freeze. Certainly no where near planting up here.
Now up to 56 and sunshine. Just really dry air masses lately... dew is back down to 21F.

Most folks would quit . Balls up and walk

That’s America right there. At-Will employment, one can walk away at any time, or they can chose that what the company offers to them is better than the alternative. Likewise a company can just chose to part ways as well.
The system is quite intriguing but it seems to work. Checks and balances.

Tonight's sunset was pretty awesome over Mansfield. I love that it happens after 8pm these days. Long, long evenings outside. We end up eating dinner now at 9pm though when you can still be outside at like 8:30pm.

I've been in Colorado for the week, two days with highs in the 30s with snow and rain one day. Mountains and some of the higher towns got snow weds. Surprised that most ski areas are closed, only found one open.
People stop coming at some point. Spring sports start up for kids, folks can do things outside now that doesn't involve snow. Golf courses, baseball fields, basketball courts, biking, etc... half the reason people go skiing in the winter (casual skiers), is because it's a fun way to get outside during those months to be honest. Once other options become available, those things take over.

It's always interesting how long snow can last when these mild dry air masses move in. Evaporational cooling seems to lead to a snow skin temperature that is much lower than the 2-meter temperature. The 30% or lower spring afternoons seem to do very little damage to the high elevation snowpack.
It's wild to me that the Toll Road path has been plowed clear and already dried (low RH), while there's 5 feet of snow on the level right next door on the neighboring trail. The pile of snow from the plowing is probably 30 feet deep over the edge of the trail on the left side of this photo.
Spring is a fun time of year.

Unlikely …
bearing in mind that nighttime lows have owned the ballast of positive anomalies in recent decadal era, that is physically caused by elevated ambient dew points - which is a concomitant aspect of CC … ( warming results in increased evaporation —> elevating WV, predicted by climate models and observably bearing out )
Heh. It’s analogous to institutional humidity. Lol. It’s built in, in other words and quite likely that miasma is the new paradigm.
Unless we cap frequently … in which yeah … it may not rain much but the heat over 75 dps’ll be relentless. Not sure that kind of dry folks have in mind?
Dont think it’ll be a Kansas summer tho.
We do A/C up here much more than we used to a decade ago, especially two decades ago when I first moved to N.VT. It doesn't cool off at night as much as it used to. That is the real A/C barometer in my opinion. The nighttime cooling. Open windows and sliding doors cooling things off nicely are the hallmarks of NNE mountain valley summers. If it doesn't radiate though, the populous needs A/C. That increase in temps overnight/during low diurnal solar cycle, has really pushed many of us to install A/C where it wasn't previously needed.

Looking forward to a warm stretch coming up. Been sunny for so long it feels like San Diego.
