  1. 84 degrees. DP 75, making it feel so gross outside. Partially sunny skies. I feel like I had to chew the air before I could breath it due to it feeling so heavy, thick.
  2. I mean it is summer, it pretty much always is wet/active in Florida in July.
  3. Thorium, molten salt, lead cooled. sodium cooled, gas cooled, Gen IV reactors all are supposed to produce the more energy with the same amount of fuel as existing reactors. Some can even be re-fueled while still online. Waste products decay in centuries, rather than thousands of years. So far only China has brought 1 Gen IV reactor online.
  4. I feel like we are getting close to plasma and fusion energy. In the mean time we should be investing in the next generation nuclear fission plants, especially with What are Small Modular Reactors. Lower in cost. Can be built off site in a factory/assembly line type setting, lowering costs greatly. If the US, China, and India get on board with SMRs, and get them built out to replace fossil fuel plants, we can take a big chunk out of what is causing CO2 levels to rise. https://interestingengineering.com/energy/iter-nuclear-fusion-boron-plasma https://www.iaea.org/newscenter/news/what-are-small-modular-reactors-smrs
  5. Gen Alpha are entering HS in the fall. I was hoping we would have this fixed by now, but here we are.
  6. I am looking forward to the next in this series of podcasts that they are putting out this summer. Very informative.
  7. I saw this article, listened to the 12 min podcast about ocean currents fading, due to climate change, decreases in salinity, etc. What are your thoughts on it? https://www.npr.org/2025/07/07/1255296716/oceans-temperature-currents-climate-change
  8. Abnormally dry just means you are below normal rainfall levels to date. We have gotten rain recently, it doesn't mean we have recovered from a rainfall deficit.
  9. ConEd made 1.8 billion after taxes, dividends, etc last year. That money is supposed to go in to R&D, system upgrades etc. Instead they just bank it for stockbuy backs, dividends in the future.
  10. When is this stationary front supposed to finally move out of the way? Temps are down, but dew points are thru the roof.
  11. But the transmission costs are a separate fee from the electric/gas costs.
  12. Big thing I miss about living on Long Island, or even in Astoria, ease of access to the south shore beaches, in particular Jones Beach Field 6.
  13. Note I am a supporter of nuclear energy. Indian Point Nuclear Power plant was commissioned between 1962, and 1976. The oldest of the three was decommissioned in 1976 due to poor design and operational issues. The other two licenses were set to expire in 2013, 2015. Those two had a history of issues dating back from 2000. Any shot at getting their licenses extended was blown to hell when the operator, Entergy, refused to build a new closed-cycle cooling towers system at the cost of $1 bil. That was key due to environmental impacts on the Hudson River from the water taken, and returned to it. The licenses for nuclear power plants last 40 years. In NYC, LI, and at least in my area of NJ, you can buy your power from 3rd party providers. Example buy your power from Superelectric company rather than ConEd. Coned still provides the transmission of the power. This is because you cannot have a million different transmission lines from each power company. Same goes for gas service. ConEd in particular has had ever increasing profits the last few years. A lot of that money is given back to shareholders with dividends. Coned pays $3.40 a share, and that rate has consistently gone up year over year.
