  1. I never liked electronic observations...sometimes the temperature is off a bit compared with my back up mercury thermometer...I don't like tipping bucket rain gages...The one I had was 10% less than my 4" plastic one...now its electronic and you get unknown precipitation at times...snow measurements by armatures are off too...

  3. the summer of 2000 was the last third consecutive la nina summer...1975, 1956 and 1910 were others...not one of them were hot...
  4. May 2020 NYC set a benchmark record low of 34 on the 9th...the latest 34 temp on record...Last May the max was 51 on the 30th...A benchmark record low max...it was the latest 51 degree max on record...yesterdays max/min was 50/45...not records but miserable just the same...
  5. record lows in Central Park are in the low to mid 30's...where is your location?...
  6. any day with the Sun out this time of year gets into at least the mid 70's unless there is record cold...so far May 2022 is getting off to a cool start...Will it continue?...I hope not...today just missed having a max in the 40's...Today is the day you are sorry you turned the heat off...
  7. Central Park became the official NYC weather obs site in 1961...Before that it was 17 Battery place in lower Manhattan...some days had big differences in temps or precip...max temps for very hot days were 4-8 degrees cooler than Central Park...snowfall was a little lower on average at the Battery, but minimums were a little higher...July 1936 was 106 in Central Park...102 at the Battery...1944 was 102 in CP but only 96 at the Battery...March 1958 saw 12" of wet snow in Central Park but only 7" at the Battery...
  8. I'd do it myself if I lived near the Park...
  9. one way to see what the difference is between the wooded Central Park obs site is to set up a thermometer in an open area of the park on a hot Sunny day...put a radiation shield on a pole during the hottest part of the day...then compare...
  10. I think it keeps minimums up also...when the weather service moved operations over 50 miles east the obs went down hill...
  11. Billy Martin would whip Judge probably with a sucker punch......
  12. my favorite Summer when I was a teen was the Summer of 1963...it had major heat waves but record cold also...1964 would be second for the same reasons...Both years were around 100 on July 1st...

  14. last May the temperature did not get above 51 from late on the 28th to the morning of the 31st...the May before that had a little snow and a max/min of 48/34 on the 9th...this year???90s finally in May?...
  15. 1980 holds the record (or did) for the most consecutive minimums 70 or above...

  18. 1956 was a third year la nina also but it faded in early January 1957...
  19. I remember 1962 going to baseball practice in 99 degree temps...in 1969 I played a softball game in Central Park against CBS news with Jim Jensen Pitching in 97 degree heat...I hit a triple and home run off him but we lost anyway...
