  1. Maybe it's onto something, but let's remember...it's the NAM.
  2. Guys...we're playing with settings. The only way to test everything is when the peak traffic occurs.
  3. The board has been struggling so I convened with myself and decided we should have a new thread rather than contribute to letting the forum bog down with the 00z models. Kevin...I stole and split a post from the other thread so that you could still have credit for it.
  4. StarDot is having their big annual Black Friday sale right now. Just thought I'd pass it along if anyone was interested... http://www.stardot-tech.com/blackfriday.html
  5. They are actually designed that way to cut down on wind turbulence. Just like the alter-type wind screens for rain gauges. http://novalynx.com/products/rain-gauges/260-952-alter-type-rain-gauge-wind-screen/
  6. It has to be almost impossible to measure under these conditions. If you live in a major LES belt and are serious about snow observing the best bet probably is to have dual concentric snow fences to cut down on the blowing and drifting snow like this:http://www.crh.noaa.gov/grr/snowsensor/ That would likely help with the BL/DR SN filling in your cleared measuring area in the center. Edit...of course that does little good when the depth eclipses the top of the fences.
  7. Jesus. Are you only measuring every 2hrs or are you clearing too? If the clearing is every 6hrs+ then that's just wild. Clearing every 2 would nullify your total and cause quite a bit of inflation. Obviously you know that though. Can you make a depth OTG measurement at all or is it near impossible right now?
  8. Just don't clear more frequently than once every 6 hrs. We don't want your totals nullified.
  9. The Blitzortung network is picking up some strikes over Lake Erie. http://www.blitzortung.org/Webpages/index.php?lang=en&page_0=33
  10. heh...ouch. 4 SSE BUFFALO 45.0 700 AM 11/19 COCORAHS 4 N BUFFALO 3.5 700 AM 11/19 COCORAHS
  11. FYI folks... I'm going to be performing a little thread housecleaning to separate this LES event out of the general discussion thread. I think this event is worthy enough to have its own thread and be pinned. I may close the general discussion thread briefly just to get everyone posting in the newly created one. Thanks!
  12. Impressive obs out of ART today too...frequent 45mph+ gusts and M1/4SM-1/4SM +SN. http://www.uswx.com/uswx/text.php?q=03276&h=24&stn=KArt
  13. The breeze is the key. Those 82/78 nights never bothered me by the coast.
  14. AVN should be running soon. https://web.archive.org/web/19970605010239/http://wxp.atms.purdue.edu/aviation.shtml
  15. The days when each NWS site was uniquely styled... https://web.archive.org/web/19991002001131/http://www.nws.noaa.gov/er/box/oldframes.html https://web.archive.org/web/19980202015033/http://www.seis.com/~nws/frame.html https://web.archive.org/web/19970501163243/http://www.nws.noaa.gov/er/btv/ That is some quality HTML right there.
  16. I liked Gopher...nice image there using Netscape. lol Old school UM weather, Unisys, and WU were pretty good too. They still have their old school web awards at the bottom of their page...the site is pretty much defunct now though. http://cirrus.sprl.umich.edu/wxnet/
  17. This used to take me like 10mins to load.
  18. Yeah I don't recall...sometime in the 80s.I was talking about the TWC forums. Many of us went from TWC to WWBB. Some were on AOL keyword weather back in the mid 90s too.
