    They're on the Cape too.

Yeah, the greenheads can be nasty on some of the outer cape beaches.  Always seem to stay close to the ground and go for the legs.  Have had to resort to putting on long pants on occasion at the beach.  Any suggestions for good repellents?

Thanks, I already have Cherry and Beefsteaks and tons of flowers too, I hit those containers weekly with 2 ozs of liquid cal/mag+ made by Botanicare, They need a lot of supplements on the uptake in this growth period before flowering, I also mix in a cup of dolomite lime into the soil before planting, That prevents BER, (blossom end rot) It may also be the variety you have planted, I prefer the beefsteaks or better boys, Its more of a firm tomato which are great for burgers or sandwiches as well as marinating them.

Thanks.  Mine are better boy or big boy.  I'll give it a try.  At least my peppers are doing well!

Nice setup!  Never thought of storage bins for my tomatoes and peppers, and we just gave away a bunch of them a few months ago since they had been sitting in the attic for 10 years.

Tomato question for anybody . . . my tomato plants are growing fabulously (about 6') but I'm not getting any flowers.  I've seen conflicting information on-line; some says to fertilize while others say do not fertilize.  Any suggestions?

A few years ago we went whitewater rafting on the Kennebec in Maine.  The campground had its own brewery on site...that’s the way to do it.

Sadly, it was a scout trip so I couldn’t partake.

Whitewater rafting and beer . . . what could go wrong!  Sounds like fun!!!

Last 5 1/2 years at OWD. A steady drift on temps.

Runs colder in the winter and hotter in the summer.  DIT must be in charge of the readings.  At least I don't have to use two different cities to be hotter and colder!

Camped at Zion National Park about 10 years ago.  Stayed in the Park campground at the southern end . . . walked out of the park and down the street for coffee and muffins for breakfast, then out of the park and down the street for drinks and Thai food in the evening!  Camping the way it was meant to be!!!  :D

I don't get the fascination you all have with not using AC. Is it a money thing? Pride? Maybe you all dont have young kids still in the house. Regardless, once temp in the house is above 72 at night, central AC goes on until October. No reason not to be comfortable in 2019.

Not cheap and not pride.  Honestly don't need it.  On hot days we close the windows in the morning and the house is almost entirely in shade.  Open the windows when we get home.  Usually have a good breeze and the ceiling fans are great for sleeping.  Maybe a handful of days we wish we had AC, but not enough that we seriously consider it.  Have a good dehumidifier to deal with the humidity.  I'm 65 and I have never lived in a house with AC.

I am by no means rich but I am surviving. Seeing so many of my friends and family die early it was an easy choice.

Yup, gotta enjoy it while you can!!!  You work hard all your life, then hopefully you have a long, fun healthy retirement.  My sister retired at 63 or 64 to help my nephew with his two young kids, and then got sick and died less than two years later . . . just not fair sometimes, but we don't get any guarantees.

Suns out, tan time commences, garden work, play with the dogs, then we pool with tunes blasting, some Netflix under the deck umbrella,  some grillin, some poolin rinse repeat. I could not wait to retire, people said you will be bored, um no.

Glad you're enjoying retirement!!!  I turned 65 in May and plan on 2 more years since I'm partially heading up a big conversion from quarters to semesters that is effective in the fall of 2021.  Can't wait for the day, and I'm not at all concerned about being bored.  On the other hand, my brother-in-law turned 65 in February and has tons of money but is afraid he'd have nothing to do if he retired.  Enjoys his work, so at least that is a plus.  If I had his money and retirement plan, I'd be out the door so fast and traveling the world.  But, to each his own.

    Makes sense by the Quarries.

Yeah, plenty of rocky terrain there.  This was just south of Ricciuti Drive, not across the street where all the rock climbers go.  Funny, we were just out in snake country in Utah at Arches and Canyonlands and never saw a hint of a rattler and then I come back here and find one.

The little ones venom is concentrated and more dangerous than the adult ones

Glad I know that now and not yesterday! I'm not fond of snakes at all, so my reaction was a bit odd - I herd the rattle and didn't really react except to look down and see the little guy about two feet to my left.  The snake took off before I did, and then I finally put it all together.  Rattle + snake = rattlesnake.  :poster_oops:

That's cool to see the species seemingly doing well there. Once in awhile they wander down to Wood Rd in Braintree and give some folks a scare..lol.

Yeah, somebody was bitten last year at on of the hotels on Wood Road.  They do seem to be expanding their territory in the Blue Hills.  I've been hiking there for 20 years, and this was my first encounter.

  14. That’s a northern water snake. We had one in our basement when I was younger when someone left the basement door open... it was nearly 6 feet long and fat
Speaking of snakes, my wife and I were hiking in the Quincy Quarry section of the Blue Hills this afternoon and heard then saw our first timber rattlesnake. It was a little one, and took off pretty quickly. Turns out my wife had heard another one just a few feet back. Glad we ran across the little ones and not mom or dad.

A little smoke still causing some haze today?  Sky should be a deeper blue with dews in the 30s.

I thought it was quite noticeable yesterday afternoon, even a hint of smoky smell in the air.  Was this from Canadian fires?
