  1. 3.25" of fluff between yesterday and today.  That brings me to 62.25" on the season.  My average is around 80" or so.  Not bad, the December storm of 19" really pushed up my total.

Lots of possibilities looking forward but with warmer air the mix comes into the equation.

got 1.25" in about an hour.  plus .25 last eve.

tapered off and not sure what we get later.  maybe little to nothing, but this is a midwinter vibe here and the snow I'm sure is very high ratio fluff.

10F  Light snow.  About 2" in the last 2 1/2 hours.  2.5" total including yesterday

That band of snow that past through us was impressive.  True heavy snow, big dendrites.  It is that fake snow that has so little water content.  Snow has let up now, vis 2 miles

after steady but very light snow all morning, with no radar returns, the radar shows lift arriving, precip starting to shot up on radar, and I'd say we are now a moderate snow with small flakes.  With 5-15 on the ground, even if we only get an inch it will feel like a snowstorm today.  Radar says to me that we overachieve our "less than an inch" forecast.  The forcing from the clipper is just getting here, it is 11 degrees and I bet the ratios are very high.  Brian will know.

Mark, only 5.4F  Light to moderate snow here.  Definitely fluff factor going to work!

Newfound Lake finally froze over last night

  4. What do you think Brian for our area?  I post my thoughts from time to time in our 7000 member Newfound Lake  facebook group which if others don't know is just north of you.  Any tweets you would suggest before I post this?

Newfound Area Weather Outlook as of Wednesday 2/22

Very cold and Stormy Weather Pattern Upcoming

Mother Nature looks like she is going to make up for lost time! The first in what might be a series of storms over the next couple of weeks will arrive mid or late evening. Snow will be heavy at times tonight with temperatures falling into the upper teens by daybreak. Light winds and dry powdery snow that will not adhere to trees or powerlines.

Thursday morning the snow will let up in intensity but may continue lightly for much of the day. There will be a warm layer of air up at cloud level so the snow may mix or even change to some ice pellets (sleet) late at night or during tomorrow, especially in areas south of the lake. Temperatures will stay in then teens all day tomorrow. Snowfall totals depend on if any ice pellets get mixed in.. Highest totals will be north. Elevation will not make a difference in this case. 7-12" north to south would be my call.

Thursday Night. Another weak weather system passes through. Although is will stay cold at the low levels of the atmosphere that warm layer above may make it warm enough at cloud level so the precipatation could fall as either ice pellets or snow. If it is all snow another 1-2" is probable.

Friday and the Weekend. Lots of clouds and the chance of some snow showers. Extremely cold. Teens during the days and below 0F at night.

Early next week. It is a long ways away but there is potential for another storm. Lots of cold air around so it could be another dump of snow. Even beyond this possibility there are more storms lined up across the country. In fact the weather models don't even show us rising much above freezing until the second week of March.

  5. Models gone wild!  Alex must be in Jamaica!!  Always happens when he is gone.  Boy, if we get hit with that 2nd storm early next week there could be some nice totals on the ground.  Of course the Kuchera clown maps are always overdone but they are fun to look at...

Meanwhile most of the roads in our town are dirt.  They were just starting to soften up so our road agent banned them.  No UPS delivery etc now until the end of mud season.  This gets me going because everything is now going to firm up and freeze for a long time with this pattern.  We only have 3 guys in our highway department and "Buck" the head guy only uses the Accu Weather app.  I have offered my input but he is not interest.  Okay rant ova..

  6. I just got a message from the SpaceWeather.com that there was just a X2.2 class solar flare.  Could be some nice Aurora sightings in the next couple of nights.  No moon either if we can get rid of the clouds. The Starlink Satellites also go by at 6:11ish pm tomorrow night

Truly jealous, winter despite the non winter for most even just south of you as you point out. I would genuinely love to live up there.

One day, perhaps. I have my retirement sights on moving to NNE. Been slowly warming my wife up to the idea. I’ve gotten her more and more into winter hiking in snowcover (we travel often).

Enjoy what many others have been lacking this winter!

I did just what you wanted to do.  From a kid in Baltimore moved to Metro Boston after college.  Worked there and bought a fixer upper up here.  Eventually sold my business and moved up full time.  Never looked back.  Central NH is a great place.  No crime, no traffic, beautiful landscapes and true 4 season weather.

  8. Nice thunderstorm this morning.  Temperature is now up to 43F.  CF shortly

I'm going to post this in the general obs thread too.

Wow, I am amazed how much colder I have been compared to places like Concord NH which is only 35 miles south of me.  Boston is 100 miles away but the climate is so much warmer down there.  I retain snow cover  well and CAD always seems to overperform.  I just realized that I have not hit 50F yet this year!  Some close calls this week but surely not the spring weather so close by.  I know there are a lot of frustrated snow lovers but a salt free roads and bare ground would be nice to see.  My acreage faces south and finally we are getting some bare ground but everyplace around me is still snow covered.  This snow is so durable.  Below if a graph of my temps so far this year.  Guess I'm going to have to wait for my first 50F!

  10. I heard that in Vermont 3 people died this weekend falling through  ice.  Here in NH as far as I know Newfound Lake has only once not frozen over completely. That was fairly recently.  It looks like that may happen again.  We got close after the last cold wave but the lake has opened up since.  Time is running out even if we turn cold again.  The increasing sun angle  really works against lake ice growth.  Getting to that time of the year that even if it stays below freezing all day the sun starts eating into the snow banks and getting in the car is nice and warm.

Snowcover wise I am still at near 100% but the first grass patches are opening up under my apple trees and on my steep facing south lawn.  My snow stake shows about 4" remaining.
