BrianW replied to CT Valley Snowman's topic in New England
Even had snow showers here in Branford right on the water. Had ice on the deck last night and it looks like my hydrangeas and some other stuff got wiped out. Stuff has been blooming here crazy early this year. -
Impressive for Central Park. The month of April 2020 at Central Park was the first April since 1940, 80 years ago, where the temperature did not reach or exceed 70°. The highest temperature was 68° on April 7, 2020. 70° was reached or exceeded 3 times in March, with the highest of 77° on March 20, 2020.

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY 549 PM EDT WED APR 22 2020 ...GUSTNADO CONFIRMED OVER THE HARLEM RIVER ON APRIL 21ST... VIDEO EVIDENCE INDICATES A GUSTNADO OCCURRED OVER THE HARLEM RIVER AROUND 230PM IN THE AFTERNOON ON TUESDAY APRIL 21ST, 2020. THE GUSTNADO WAS FILMED MOVING OVER THE HARLEM RIVER, SOUTH OF THE BROADWAY BRIDGE THAT CONNECTS NORTHERN MANHATTAN AND THE BRONX, BEFORE DISSIPATING OVER THE BRONX SHORELINE NORTH OF FORDHAM ROAD. RADAR VELOCITY ESTIMATES AND A MESONET OBSERVATION OF 71 MPH FROM FORDHAM IN THE BRONX INDICATES ESTIMATED STRAIGHT LINE WIND SPEEDS OF 70-75 MPH. A GUSTNADO IS A SMALL WHIRLWIND WHICH FORMS AS AN EDDY IN THUNDERSTORM OUTFLOWS. THEY DO NOT CONNECT WITH ANY CLOUD-BASE ROTATION AND ARE NOT TORNADOES. SINCE THEIR ORIGIN IS ASSOCIATED WITH CUMULIFORM CLOUDS, GUSTNADOES ARE OFFICIALLY CLASSIFIED AS THUNDERSTORM WIND EVENTS BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE. LIKE DUST DEVILS, SOME STRONGER GUSTNADOES CAN CAUSE DAMAGE. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING WAS INITIALLY ISSUED BY NWS NEW YORK FOR THIS AREA AT 212PM TUESDAY AFTERNOON AS A SEVERE LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS APPROACHED, WITH A SEVERE WEATHER STATEMENT INDICATING THE POSSIBILITY OF A TORNADO ISSUED AT 227PM. STRENGTHENING STORM RELATIVE VELOCITY ROTATION WAS DETECTED BY FORECASTERS ON BOTH THE NEWARK LIBERTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND JOHN F KENNEDY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TERMINAL DOPPLER RADARS, PROMPTING THE UPGRADED ISSUANCE OF A TORNADO WARNING AT 233PM. AT THIS POINT THOUGH, OBSERVATIONAL EVIDENCE IS INCONCLUSIVE OF A TORNADO TOUCHDOWN. IF ANYONE HAS VIDEO OR PICTURES OF THIS STORM FROM THIS AREA BETWEEN 220PM AND 240PM ON TUESDAY APRIL 21ST, PLEASE SEND TO [email protected] TO AID OUR FURTHER EVALUATION OF THIS EVENT. THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT, SPOTTERS, AND MEDIA PARTNERS FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE DURING AND AFTER THE SEVERE WEATHER EVENT OF APRIL 21ST, 2020.

This was from right after the line came through. I'm right on Long Island Sound east of HVN. -
6 pm Euro wind map. Looks like Block Island is going to get hit hard. Cape May/Jersey shore is going to get rocked.

This Davis on the Block Island water tower will be interesting to watch this afternoon. https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KRIBLOCK2

It is going to be nuts here on the shoreline. Definitelty going to be some insane waves and flooding issues .

First mow of the season and Maple trees are leafing out here on the shoreline in Branford.

I live right next to the port of New Haven where all the heating oil comes in by ship. Its way cheaper here as the truck fills from the port a few miles away. They dont have to move it far. -

Saw a sign this morning for $1.78 heating oil in the New Haven area. It will probably go even lower this week. Great time to fill for those that use oil. -

This is spot on. Marijuana and CBD also have huge medicinal benefits as well. Its helping people with all types of health issues instead of taking powerful synthetic pharmaceuticals. I have seen it first hand with a family member suffering and dying from cancer and marijuana was the only thing that worked on easing his suffering. All the other drugs made him extremely ill. Also, the science behind thc now is really advanced. They have the entire molecular structure broken down and what the effects are associated with them. Its not like the old days of buying some random bud. The effects of each strain are known. You can buy tested and chemical free bud that is good for sleep for example. Here is a description from NETA in Northhampton of some of their buds. -

NH’s 1st Coronavirus Patient, Told to Stay Isolated, Went to Event Instead New Hampshire has identified a second, presumptive case of coronavirus in a man who was in close contact with the first patient, who attended an event across the state border in Vermont. https://www.nbcboston.com/news/coronavirus/2nd-presumed-case-coronavirus-new-hampshire/2240615/ -
I read there is a parking level on the 3rd floor on the other side of the building and it might have just rolled back.

Happy first day of #MeteorologicalSpring ! Looking back at this past winter season (Dec - Feb), all of our climate sites had a top 10 warmest February and a top 10 warmest winter! Feb 2020 was also one of the least snowiest as Islip had the first snowless Feb on record!
-
Yeah. I think since Dec 1st Bridgeport has had like 12 inches of rain and only 4 inches of snow. There is like a mass emergence of insects here this morning. Swarms everywhere.

I saw on Facebook that they have to put that wording in on indiegogo. Its like some sort of required legal wording. Midea is the largest refrigeration company in the world. I doubt if you ordered one you wouldnt receive it. It looks like they may hit a million in backing soon. Their original goal was 200k. -

For those running window ac's this new design by Midea will save you alot of money. Especially with the high electric costs of New England. CT for example has the 3rd most expensive electricity with Hawaii and Alaska being number 1 and 2. Standard windows ac's are fixed speed and use a ton of electricity. This one has an inverter like a mini split and the compressor can adjust its capacity based on the cooling load. Midea claims at its lowest speed it will draw less than 200 watts. Most windows units run at 5 times that. Its is also 9 times quieter than a regular ac. Cost per kwh. Hawaii 34.43 Alaska 21.99 Connecticut 20.8 Massachusetts 20.6 California 19.44 New York 17.34 New Hampshire 18.9 Rhode Island 18.2 Vermont 17.9 Washington state has the lowest electricity rate at 7 cents due to their huge amount of cheap hydroelectric. Hydro Quebec also has some of the lowest rates in the world as well. -
On This Day in 1717: We remember the start of the "Great Snow of 1717" which was a parade of winter storms from February into early March.

How old is the house? I dont think people realize how much you can save on energy costs with a modern airtight insulated home. You can also seal and insulate an older house pretty close to the same standards. I have solar but my house would cost me about $75-100 a month for heating in the winter if I had to buy the electricity. -
