  1. It's been good and breezy up on my hill most of the day. I am exposed to the E/SE/NE so all of the goodness that is Jose is right in my face.
  2. Yes but a foot or more of rain combined with wind can make an awful mess.
  3. And now it's hot... What happened to our nice cool dry early fall weather? I don't like this
  4. Another super foggy morning. This time of year I usually like to go out and do a dawn patrol ride a few times a week but it sucks when everything is slick like ice. This year is especially bad because it was so wet for so long the algae and moss is pervasive and that stuff is downright scary when it's wet.
  5. Some trees are already at full color and many are mixed and dropping leaves, it started about two weeks ago and has been accelerating. I was up and down the Taconic twice the last two weeks and into the far western Berkshires above 1400 feet yesterday and it is definitely fall already. This is at least two weeks early south of about I90. I will be up in central VT tomorrow and the NEK on Wednesday and I fully expect to see bare trees up there.
  6. Another half inch since yesterday afternoon puts me at ~4", give or take, since Saturday night.
  7. That's pretty much what I'm coming up with. Scary to think that a complete communications blackout is possible in this day and age. Well, anywhere other than North Korea
  8. That's what I'm assuming too. I saw one clip about someone doing a flyover and they said the place was wiped clean.
  9. I can't seem to find much info on how Barbuda fared. I watched until the cams went down last night and now there is pretty much no communications from the island that I can find. If anyone has any links you should post them.
  10. Yesterday 1.3 and today so far is .8, going back to overnight Saturday it looks like about 3". I really need to find some extra $$ and get my own station. Anyway, it's plenty wet out there, the leaves are changing and it feels like fall is here early.
  11. Wow. Just south of me the Somers Meso has .75" so far today and about the same distance north the Brewster Meso has 2.43" so I don't quite know what to make of it. I know for a while it wasn't raining much here but was pitch black to my north so I'll guess that I'm probably in the low 1" range. It's absolutely pouring again. Hoping Barbuda doesn't get wiped clean off the map Then St Kitts/Nevis sometime overnight appears to be in for the same thing.
  12. If you include last night I got 1.3<>1.4" from the event. It actually rained pretty hard here for about an hour last night.
  13. The trees sure seem to think so. The forest feels much more like early October than early September. Leaves are changing and dropping, undergrowth is down and done for the year, chestnuts and acorns are littering the ground like it's six weeks later than it is and the squirrels are gathering and doing their thing like I've never seen before this early. Brian - I was in your neck of the woods riding today in Mianus River Park and damn is it dry down there, you haven't been kidding
  14. Aww didn't quite break below 40 here, looks like 40.2 in Brewster and 40.8 just down the hill from me. Close... Haha I said we need some rain not 6<>20"! On the plus side I have some trees that need to be taken down that I can't afford to have someone do after the well pump unexpectedly retiring last week so a good blow with soggy ground might take care of it for me.
  15. We could actually use some rain now. Things have really dried out in the woods, undergrowth is mostly down for the year already under the canopy and the ground is hardpan and dusty. In the open areas and meadows the growth is getting crackly and the trails have a nice dust layer sitting on them while right at the treeline it appears really lush until you get into it and realize it's crackly dry. That said, it sure was a nice week to be out in the woods on a mt bike. Today was really good, crisp air and perfect visibility.
  16. I know I wasn't really paying attention but was it supposed to rain overnight? I didn't get much but it rained for over an hour. Things needed a soaking, trails were almost dusty yesterday.
  17. It's at least a week earlier than last year in most areas even with the stress of it being so dry last year. There were spots in MA and southern NH that had already turned by now last year because of the drought though.
  18. I've been in northern VT and NH twice in the last week and the season is definitely changing up there. Going up I91 you can really feel the difference as you go through MA and into southern VT the summer green fades to a lighter color and by the time you get to White River Jct color starts to pop. Yesterday we noticed oranges and reds and a few yellows with some species of trees dropping their leaves, in the wind yesterday it was really evident as they were bouncing off the side of the car. Over the last week new flowers are blooming too and the color of the meadow floors is noticeably different than it was last weekend.
  19. Anybody get a look at that storm over Iowa and Missouri? Nasty looking bugger...
  20. 1 mile south of me was .14" and ~5 miles north it's .55". I certainly got drenched for about an hour so I'm figuring I was right on the heavy side of the line because it was definitely over 1/4" the way the water was running down the driveway and street. Nice out there this morning
  21. I'll take it. I like it not being as hot as it would be otherwise. I also like that it helps keep the soil moisture up, I hate dry and dusty.
