  1. We decided to go with planter boxes so they can be brought in and out easily enough if necessary. We're going to do some hanging planters too, keeps the tomatoes away from the dogs and bugs.
  2. Last morning below freezing? I want to get some of the veggie plants outside.
  3. It was pretty cool to get so many types of precip and thunder and sun all in the same day but I much prefer what we've got (so far) today.
  4. Around 4:30 I looked over and said to my wife look at that it looks convective and the temp was dropping. A few minutes later there were a few claps of thunder and it started pounding down ice pellets. Now it's a mix of sleet and snow with pellets mixed in. What a wonderful spring afternoon
  5. I was thinking the same thing but also have the far western Berks on my radar because the altitude is that much better. Lets go throw snowballs at each other
  6. No accumulations yet this month? I've had one significant and three that don't really count but they happened, as well as a half dozen or more days with no accumulation but it snowed. I'm definitely over it I was traveling around central CT yesterday and pretty much anything above about 400 feet had snow on the ground from the day before. While we got almost entirely rain here they started the day with 3-5" of snow before changing to rain. Even the places that got an inch or more of rain still had snow in shaded areas and big plow piles in lots and along main roads. That must have been some dense stuff to last through that torrential rain later in the day. Above ~800 feet there was still significant snowcover in the woods on all but the most exposed southerly faces where it was melting off in the afternoon sun and tropical type rainshowers that were ongoing.
  7. Better than a coating, more like .3", and on pretty much everything. Julian I've actually been thinking that, even mentioned a few times how many days of frozen precip we've had this month. It didn't really phase me when I lived in VT or CO but I sure don't expect it here. The new climate regime is interesting to watch that's for sure.
  8. Yup it's coming down hard enough that the slush is creeping in from the side of the roads to the traffic lanes.
  9. Doesn't surprise me. I saw a few flakes early this morning too, certainly not enough to even be visible on the ground but they did fall from the sky. I really should keep records because it seems that snow has fallen more than half the days this month.
  10. What's the timing on the frozen precip later today? I need to go up to Poughkeepsie and back after dinner and questioning the wisdom of that timing.
  11. Hmmph, frozen stuff in the forecast for tomorrow night. Good thing it will get washed away almost right away. From soggy to dusty in a matter of days. Yard cleanup was a dirty affair today.
  12. I had the tiniest little bit left late this afternoon when I came home. Just up the hill from me are a couple of houses with really steep north facing front yards and their piles were still more than 2 feet high and 10-15 feet long. I'm really curious to see if they make it through the day tomorrow. If they are still there late tomorrow afternoon I might have to stop and make the last snowball of the season
  13. It's still late winter up there huh. What's the elevation of that bowl below you? Yup me too. I've mostly lost my desire to do outside things because I'm tired of being cold. I know I'll warm up as I get going but don't feel like dealing with it. Age I started the second round of yard cleanup but when it started flurrying I gave up and went in for a beer. At this point I want a 60 degree afternoon and I'll set up in the sheltered top of the driveway and do some woodwork projects I've been putting off and then maybe wash one of the cars. As long as I don't look at the mostly unbudded trees and bushes I think I'll be ok.
  14. I'm really over the snow at this point but, it just keeps happening. Got a bit earlier and it looks like it's about to start up again anytime now.
  15. @Juliancolton is it snowing by you? Radar looks like it is. Long lake effect streamers this morning.
  16. Well, it got pretty warm here today but we held onto a couple of those 6+". I like these 'durable snow' storms in the spring. Tonights forecast frozen stuff could make things interesting in the morning. In a way I kind of hope it does sleet for a few hours, makes for fun fat bike conditions
  17. On 9D? I bet that if you went over the hill there would be more up top.
  18. Well, considering I was expecting white rain and weenie wishing for 3-4" the 6.7" that I got is pretty awesome. I measured in a dozen spots around the yard, some on the ground and some on hard surfaces and a few on elevated surfaces, and it ranged between 6 on the nose and 7.2 in a sheltered northern exposure spot. I shoveled most of the driveway into one pile in the shade, hopefully it lasts all week Another one next weekend maybe? This isht is killing my business but I'm enjoying it nonetheless.
  19. Didn't get cold enough last night to get out and ride on snow this morning Boy is there still a lot of snow up through Bear Mt/Harriman parks above ~900 feet. There's easily a foot or more on all but southern exposures. I didn't think it would still be so significant this far south but there it is...
  20. I made a quick run up to Glens Falls today and it's really amazing just how much snow is still on the ground in most places east of the river. There's a distinct snow hole from I84 to a little south of Tagkhanic but generally anything over 5-600 feet is still reasonably well covered other than southern exposures. As far south as Fahnestock there's still a foot or so and the upper ~30 miles of the Taconic Parkway it's still deep winter especially over 800 feet. I heard that now that the Fahnestock XC ski winter park is done for the season they're not grooming anymore so the groomed trails are open for me to go ride the fat bike on so I'm hoping it doesn't rain much tonight and it does cool down so I can go do a dawn patrol over there tomorrow morning.
  21. Well that was a nice little snowshower, just enough to whiten the existing snow. It sure has snowed a lot of the days this month, certainly more days than any other month this winter.
  22. My wife would bug out after spending so much time preparing for Passover to have people cancel coming because of another snowstorm.
