  1. You didn't have to go too far from BDR to get over that 30" number for 15/16. The CT coast missed a few nickel and dime events that got those of us in the interior to a pretty reasonable total that winter.
  2. Like here, there are enough spots that are no hunting that it's not really a problem. I was in Rutland and their big mt bike park, Pine Hill, is a no hunting spot and the lot was full. They'll also be grooming in there for fat biking this winter with the new SnowDog they just got. What I think is a bigger issue is that state lands close to mt bikes for the winter season so that's a significant limiting factor because it lasts for months rather than just weeks. FYI, if you haven't been to Pine Hill it's worth a trip. It connects Rutland to the towns west and northwest with trails and old carriage roads. It's a big, growing network worthy of a full day of riding. Just south of there in Poultney is the new Slate Valley Trails, two of the segments are open to hunting but one is not. That network has been laid out and built by one of the old guard of VT trailbuilding and it's coming along really nicely. These two spots make western VT a real destination worthy of a weekend trip. Let me know when you've got that birch cut out, I can use some of that wood for a new project I'm working on. I need pieces up to 4 or even 5 feet long with a reasonable diameter (5-12"). I'll come up and grab some and get it out of your way.
  3. There were still more cars with mt bikes on the rack than skis on the roof but changeover will happen pretty much any minute now.
  4. I drove home from Brattleboro VT, left there around 5, and it was absolutely horrible driving conditions. Of course when I got about a mile from home it pretty much stopped raining.
  5. What an ugly drive home from Brattleboro VT yesterday evening. I should have sat down somewhere for a long dinner and waited for it to move through. I saw some snow up around Killington earlier in the day, the top of K and Pico are snowcapped already.
  6. At least when we had to replace the well pump (again) last year the lines were still good but when it's 390 feet down and has to be done with a little portable machine because you can't get a truck into the yard it's pretty darned expensive. So some mixed precip on Saturday and then again on Tuesday huh. Short autumn FTL.
  7. Don't forget the day before T-giving 2014. I had a foot here.
  8. There are plenty of beaches in the region where you wont be surrounded by others you just have to work for it a little bit although NJ is tougher than LI or RI. Cold is good, it keeps you humble and snow is necessary for a healthy psyche not to mention skiing and fat biking Don't get me wrong, the Lower Keys are high on our list for a landing spot when we move away from the NY Metro in a few years but the NH or ME coast are more likely but I won't be surprised if we find ourselves somewhere around Marathon or Big Pine Key. There's no part of FL that I would consider further north of there though, not even sort of...
  9. When it's just plain uncomfortably humid for weeks on end. Ooh boy pea soup fog and rain It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood...
  10. I really should have gotten that last mow of the season done yesterday and mulched up all the leaves, now it looks like it may be a while before it dries out enough to get that done. I'm so tired of rain... #bringbackthedrought
  11. I'm just about 8 miles from where that Shrub Oak ob was taken and I got 2.6".
  12. I saw 76 on the dashboard thermo in two spots this afternoon and 75 on a bank thermo. It was warm and muggy but damn it felt good I've been out in the woods a little bit recently and it's really wet. Things are moldy and rotting, trees are falling over all over the place.
  13. Yeah I finally got out for a ride after giving my buggered up hand a few months to recover and it was mid 60's through filtered sun and nice dry air. Most of the leaves are down, I know up by you it's pretty much stick season because I was up there yesterday. If those mid month forecasts start to look more possible I guess I'm gonna have to break down and get those new tires I've been needing for a few months. My car is already sketchy when it's wet, white would be out of the question.
  14. There is also the sense that it's cool due to limited sunshine. It's been cloudy for so much of the daylight hours it's hard to get the sense that it's warm.
  15. Yeah it rained/misted all day, stopped for a few hours then rained again for a few hours at night. It's still misting and really foggy keeping everything soaked and soggy. This one wasn't about how much rain rather it was how many hours of steady, soaking precip and apparently coastal impacts were pretty significant.
  16. It's 40* here, I'd guess it doesn't hit 50 even if the bulk of this storm clears through by mid afternoon.
  17. I'd love to see a few shots that show next weekend. Thanks.
  18. Yeah lotsa leaves down. I have a couple of good sized branches down but they were rotten and just needed a good breeze to bring them down anyway and it looks like ~.7" of rain so far.
  19. 50 brings down big trees. When a couple hundred thousand people have no power you can tell them it was a run of the mill, weak storm.
  20. You keep forgetting October 2012. That was equally as bad here although I don't think the power was out for as long, maybe 3 days instead of 5+ but that was because we had lost so many big trees just a year before.
