Some would say that is still a ratter…..like winter doesn’t just get to excuse itself for 8 weeks and then everything is cool if it’s amazing the final 4 weeks…..that’s lame

I get it, you want it to snow early mid Dec and last until March but it doesn't happen often down here, 2011 didn't start until I think Jan 11th-12th and that was a great year. A good Feb into March has happened some years and those have been good too. You might have to move in with Phin or PF to get what you want.

Was snooping around some cat skiing operations in BC after seeing a bunch of Instagram videos recently and found some cool data. Mustang Powder in the Monashee mountains near Revelstoke has kept records at their lodge at 5700’. They claim to average 380” just December thru March which blew my mind. Nearby Mount Copeland had a station at 6000’ for a few years in the early 1970s and averaged like 750” during the 5 or so years and had one year with almost 1000” snow.

Another station nearby in the Selkirks with longer term data Mount Fidelity at 6150’ averages ~550 inches and around 350” December to March. Rogers pass below at 4300’ averages around 350” for the entire season. So the Mustang powder lodge probably averages somewhere around 550-600” during a full winter. Mountains in this region get up over 9000’ so the claims of 800-1000” average snowfall in the higher alpine are probably not far fetched at all.

The Columbia Mountain region fascinates me and is tops on my bucket list of destinations. I have read people claim this region averages the most “dry powder” in the world and they always seem to be consistent, it’s not usually feast or famine like the Sierra can be. The amount of quality powder snowfall in this region blows my mind and truly has to be one of the best regions in the world for snowfall and skiing. Hopefully I’ll experience it firsthand one day!

I can't ski anymore (injury) but still would like to a trip there in the winter just to witness the snow.

I bought some cheap snowshoes on Amazon when I moved up here. I assumed from a lifetime of movies that I would be gracefully walking atop the snow like Legolas the elf, but it''s not quite like that. They do help though and make it bearable to walk in what would otherwise be waist deep snow.

That's what I thought too, the first time I tried them was in 2015 where the was probably close to 4 feet of snow, I sunk down quite a ways, not like in the movies.

I bought some at Costco a few years ago that have been great.  I'm not an expert in any way, shape or form and they have been easy to use with simple bindings and came with good poles.  I think they were Yukon Charlie?  I'll check when I get home.  They were $79 or $89 I think.

Me and my wife got a couple pairs there too and they've served us fine for the last 5-6 years, we don't go a lot so it's not heavy wear on them but they look like they're built well.

I bought a 6x6x8’ pt post and dug a hole and locked it in with quikcrete.

I was thinking you guys were using metal poles, I'll have to give some thought on where to install mine. Im surrounded by a lot of trees,

Not last year, she didn't lol

No, not last year but there's been some years where she's had a deep pack and we just have piles down here or maybe a few inches. I think she's in a good spot for the inverted trough, seems she's had a couple that got that area pretty good.

Greenfield was only about .25” before flip to sleet and then rain.  That was around 4pm then we took off for Wilbraham where they started as sleet and then rained.

I started as some light snow that melted right away, then sleet then it was just a cold rain.

No, I got snow for a while here but when it turned to rain it beat the snow down quite a bit. Only left with about 0.1 on ground now at about 8:00 AM after it hit close to an 1.0" around 6:00 PM last night before turning over.

I'd consider your area NE Mass, I'm surprised they didn't get any in the central and western areas.

Good morning DS. I pray you do. The beauty will still be there and the cold season will be made perfect with the wonderful warmth by your side. As always ….

My sister lives just south of Portland and always does much better snow wise that I do here., plus it's a 10 minute ride to the beach.
