  1. Yeah some was dirt cause our plow guy dug up the grass late spring. Regarding mow height,.I cut at 4"; highest my mower will go. I'll deal with weeds next spring
  2. Back lawn looks much better than last year due to new hydroseed and pretty wet spring/early summer, but crabgrass out of control.
  3. Is this just thatch? We've had plenty of rain and the lawn looks dry in spots. I posted this in the NNE thread by accident, but got some suggestions for this lawn issue. Someone said red thread, but it's not that. Also suggested was to dig up a 6"x6" crap spot and compare the roots to a good spot. I've checked before for grubs and we've never had them, so not sure that what it is. We have three sections of lawn, all seeded with different variety. The other two look decent with no straw-like appearance, but the original seeded lawn, done by our builders in 2013 in these photos is the question.
  4. I've had red thread before in another house and this isn't that .
  5. Good idea. Will do this, thanks .
  6. I do fertilize; once every 6 wks or so. Last treatment was weed killer with fert. It seems to do this every summer around this time. Looks good in May and part of June, then starts to get the straw like look Meant to put this in the lawn thread
  7. Is this just thatch? We've had plenty of rain and the lawn looks dry in spots .
  8. Quick update on last Fall's back yard lawn hydroseed project. Looks preety good now. Quite a few weeds in there, but I think I'll hit them with some fert/weed killer next month. Didn't want to stress it out too soon. Up close, still quite a few bare spots, mostly slopeside. Some yellowing in front of the oak. Not sure if it's due to sucking nutrients away from grass or something else, but I knew it might be a problem as the grass never grew well around it before. In comparison, 2015 was the worst (way before hydro project). In fairness, it was hot/dry that Summer. I'd be willing to bet this hydo would go to junk if we ever experience HHH this summer.
  9. Looks great, but you make it look too easy. I must have the worst green thumb for lawns .
  10. I think you're right about the buttercup. Extremely invasive, hard to get rid since the seeds are very hearty and just pulling the plant out doesn't guarantee the seeds left behind won't germinate. Recommendation is kill all grass and start over. I've got to get out of this high maintenance, high cost lawn project crap. .
  11. The first pic has a very soft fern-like leave while second spreads around the ground, right at ground level .
  12. Pretty sure it was the Northeast Mix. https://www.americanmeadows.com/wildflower-seeds/wildflower-mix/northeast-wildflower-seed-mix That whole area was clear cut only 2 yrs ago. I just through the wildflower seed by hand, but obviously missed some large swaths. Some oaks are already creeping back in, so I need to keep cutting those or they'll grow rapidly. Here's a pic during excavation.
  13. Let me look and I'll get back to you .
  14. I through down a bunch of wild flower seed last year. Supposed to be 10-15 variety throughout the season. Only a couple right now .
  15. Hydroseed has filled in quite a bit, but getting some weeds. Didn't want to fertilize last night with the weed killer since I lightly spread some starter fert only 3 wks ago .
  16. Mother nature provided enough rain so far. I hate to have to hook up sprinklers again but will probably have to .
  17. First cut on the new hydroseed last night. Disregard lower left brown spot as they was plow damage from this winter that was reseeded 3 wks ago. Overall, I'm not that impressed. Lots of thin areas and some without shoots. It's been cold until recent, so maybe it'll start growing faster IDK. A few hot days, and this will probably go to junk. Pretty much have had it with lawn projects that don't succeed very well.
  18. The best it's gonna look this summer .
  19. Take a chance. What could go wrong [emoji23] .
  20. Still thin in spots, but coming around
