  1. We have a great room, living room, dining room, kitchen, etc 1st level and get by with 1 8000 btu window unit. Over 1200 square feet.   Great room ceiling isn’t as high (15’).  Very comfy right now. Keeping the moisture down is key

with 25-30 people, especially if going in and out opening doors all day that might not work
Yeah the deck doors will be opening and closing a lot. May try putting our small dehumidifier in the room. Maybe that will help a bit

18,000 BTU combined with 2 fans and a dehumidifier  is a better option.  And you will have to cool/dehumidify the area overnight.  And even with those a lot depends on how many people will be in the area and how long they will be in the area for.

thanks. maybe i'll just get a box fan. If it rains, there could be 25-30 people in the house:yikes:

  3. Regarding Saturday HHH, we have an open concept great room with 20' cathedral ceilings. Total sqft including foyer and kitchen is 740sqft. Too late to get a mini split, so was thinking of 12,000 btu window rattler. With all the open space, I'm not sure how effective a window unit will be, so burning $450 may be a waste. Plus we have large windows that lets the sun in, so I'm thinking the unit will provide little relief for our BBQ guests.

  4. So my neighbor and I pulled up the pump and hoses the floats and pump off. He noticed some water in the electrical box inside the tank... he thinks wires may be tripping the breaker as they occasionally come in contact with the water.
We dried the box and wires off and sealed it up properly. Reset breakers and manually lifted first and second floats (normal running conditions) and the pumped kicked on as it was supposed to.
Hopefully that was the issue and it’s veen solved
Always satisfying when u can fix stuff without calling the experts

I was reading about the 'male style' for 2019 and apparently cargo shorts are dead...

Honestly reading the article ... it seemed like the proponents of fashion have just always hated cargo shorts and are a bit overly thrilled to announce them as dead, claiming that chinos are the way now.

Be that as it may, ... but, I still think it's more of a generation thing.  Gen-Xers are still doing what they've always been comfortable doing, which cargos... Xers are taking over middle age now ... Just like our fathers - they didn't deviate much either...  I'm sort of tacitly aware of fashion ... mainly because I have 8 sisters and half of them are artists so... that pretty much forced me to be aware of it.. Anyway, the Millennials have adopted the flip flop and chino shorts look...  which ...ironically?  That is really the "orientation fluidity" of the 1980s ( to put it PC ).

Yeah ... that's right.  And it's interesting how the standard/fad for masculine identify has taken on a look that is actually reversed in the past three decades.

screw fashion. cut-off jeans ftw. My dad used to wear them and used a rope as a belt

  6. Is this just thatch? We've had plenty of rain and the lawn looks dry in spots. I posted this in the NNE thread by accident, but got some suggestions for this lawn issue. Someone said red thread, but it's not that. Also suggested was to dig up a 6"x6" crap spot and compare the roots to a good spot. I've checked before for grubs and we've never had them, so not sure that what it is. We have three sections of lawn, all seeded with different variety. The other two look decent with no straw-like appearance, but the original seeded lawn, done by our builders in 2013 in these photos is the question.

6z GFS is still 100F on Sat with W flow and a launching pad with 23C 850s. BOS probably won't be below 80F Friday night.

I know it's summer and all, but we have our annual BBQ this Sat and no AC in the house (other than bedroom). 90+ is pretty brutal when everyone is out on the deck. Makes one want to drink more. Gotta have plenty of water on hand. Is it supposed to be HHH or just hot?

  8. Lava,  that doesn't look good.  I dethatch once a year, each spring but that doesn't look like much thatch in my opinion.   Have you fertilized at all?  I know it's not great for the environment but starting last year I hired a company that does lawn care.  He comes once a month and applies fertilizer.  They have a program so each month the application varies.  In the spring weed control mixed in, then grub control yada yada.  My lawn looks great but I bet if I didn't have him it would look like crap.

I do fertilize; once every 6 wks or so. Last treatment was weed killer with fert. It seems to do this every summer around this time. Looks good in May and part of June, then starts to get the straw like look

Meant to put this in the lawn thread

  9. Thanks, I already have Cherry and Beefsteaks and tons of flowers too, I hit those containers weekly with 2 ozs of liquid cal/mag+ made by Botanicare, They need a lot of supplements on the uptake in this growth period before flowering, I also mix in a cup of dolomite lime into the soil before planting, As well as a 2x2 strip of 10-10-10 fert, That prevents BER, (blossom end rot) It may also be the variety you have planted, I prefer the beefsteaks or better boys, Its more of a firm tomato which are great for burgers or sandwiches as well as marinating them.
