  1. I think our Gov is biting at the bit for lockdowns.
  2. what is the scientific explanation as to why cases increase with more mask use?
  3. Apparently Maine is now the worst in the country for virus reproduction rate. Just exploding here.
  4. Blew the doors off previous records. The CAR temp is usually their avg high in early july
  5. DNA vaccines and in this case mRNA vaccines would likely be taken up by myocytes (muscle cells of the arm). While not the optimal antigen presenting cells (APC), they have the proper co-stimulatory molecules on their surface to present the vaccine antigens to T cells. More potent APCs would be interstitial dendritic cells and these would also be present, albeit to lower levels then muscle cells. Unless there is a secretion signal sequence encoded as part of the expressed spike protein for extracellular transport, the majority of the vaccine would be expressed intracellularly and loaded into Class I MHC for cellular CD8 T cell responses, but some vaccine antigen can and will be dumped extracellularly which would elicit the antibody response. There may be some microtissue trauma from needle injection which causes some minor inflammation, aiding in recruitment of immune cells. mRNA degrades pretty quickly even during "normal" bodily gene expression, but I think I recall hearing this vax is delivered in a liposome which provides enhanced protection against degradation.
  6. yeah pfz manufactured and the govt prepaid for a bunch of doses months ago regardless if the trial failed. quite the gamble, but thankfully it appears to be a success
  7. actually 660 million since the vax requires 2 doses.
  8. Other companies are also using similar/same technology as the PFZ vax, so they must be shady too? I do think the timing is just a wee bit suspect, but maybe just a coincidence. Either way, the news is the best thing we've had all year.
  9. 90% effectiveness is remarkable, especially when a lot of people were thinking flu-like effectiveness of 40-60%. If the data holds, this is the beginning of the end for covid, make no mistake about it. Sort out the logistics and let's put an end to this.
  10. Oxbow, in oxford. They don't brew here though
  11. Pizza and beer for lunch after short hike. Another buet day
  12. In Naples for dinner. Just friggin great eating outside still. 62F
  13. Absolutely stunning weather. 72.6F. Great riding weather
  14. Not sure it's all garbage. Case number is rapidly rising, near exponential. If we start approaching 2000 deaths/day, it's off to the races I think.
  15. Will there be delayed resort openings you think? With T-Day only 3 wks away, when's the next window to make snow?
  16. That's the odd thing. I am on downside of the riding season, so have lost a little fitness, but my numbers right now should be the best they could be for this time of the year and yet they are the worst. Same thing happened last year at my physical. Tried a statin, but got sore legs within 6wks. Went to a much better (partial vegan) diet in Jan, wasn't drinking any IPAs mot of the winter and when I got my chol checked in May, it was the best it's been in over 10yrs. Even better than when I was taking the statin for a couple months. My PCP said diet wouldn't do much for my numbers, but I have proof it certainly can. My cardiologist didn't think I needed to be on a statin based on my results in addition to CRP levels (always <1) so I tend to put more faith in his recommendation than my PCP. I've requested a calcium score cause I really want to see where things are internally with respect to build-up. Like I said I eat way too many carbs. My breakfast rotates between oatmeal or eggs and piece of toast with PB. When I look at strictly my oatmeal mornings with added honey, whole grain bread with PB and half banana and half cup OJ, my carb intake is ~125g! That's stupid. All getting broken down to simple sugars and massive blood glucose rise no doubt. No wonder my #'s are up including my triglycerides and even BP. And that's just breakfast. Lunch tends to be more protein based (chix), but two more pieces of bread, crackers and a granola Kind bar (more carbs/sugar). My wife tells me not to eat so much oatmeal, but I feel like 1cup is enough to keep my filled for most of morning, but one cup has 60g carbs. Dietary recommendations based on 2000 cal/day diet says to get ~200-300g carbs, which is probably where I land by dinner time, but that just seems like too much.
