  1.  Pretty amazing for Dec 28th.  Perfect track and the piece of shit makes  it rain all the way up to the St. Lawrence and beyond.

  2. I'm hearing there's major trail damage and the season for some areas may be closed this year due to no funding, What that will do, Is place more pressure and congestion on the areas that will be open making it more dangerous once we finally get riding conditions, The states winter tourism is going to take a major blow.
Double edge sword. Snow would be nice to get the base down and build from there, but that's going to make it harder to fix the trails. No snow next 7-10days is somewhat of a blessing since the atvs can get in there easier. I donated some money and want to help some clubs but we're out of town tomorrow till Thurs. The hotspots like rangeley, Eustis, jackman and points north that didn't get much damage will be crowded for sure when we get snow

  3. Some sled trails I ride not far away are in big trouble and I'm sure more messages like this will be forthcoming. Not gonna be a preety sled season in many spots and business is going to take a beating.

Here’s the cold hard truth from the SSSC. We do not know what this season will bring. We are a small club located in two very small towns with limited funding opportunities. We have around 100 miles of trails. We have exhausted our yearly funding repairing the bridges and trails from this springs flooding. Only to have it washed away again. We appreciate the outpouring of support from our riders offering to help, it has been refreshing to see. The reality is this isn’t going to be a volunteer issue. It requires money to hire the contractors and heavy equipment it takes to build bridges and fix roads. Our grooming equipment requires heavy duty bridges and culverts. With the freeze up coming and snow soon to follow we do not believe we will be able to repair all, or possibly even any of our trails without a significant financial boost. It’s not the news anyone wants to hear but we want to be transparent.

Tetons and the Cottonwoods are the only good resort skiing in North America right now outside of Alyeska and the interior Canadian Rockies. Pretty brutal December for the Cascades and Coastal BC with extremely warm ARs bringing rain to the peaks and washing away snowpack. Sierras have been pretty high and dry so far, save for some warm cutoffs bringing some snow way up high (8-9k+), and mostly rain to the resorts.

The Northern Pacific is just so incredibly warm right now, outside of where the storms directing the ARs have been upwelling water southeast of Alaska. Mets more knowledgeable than me on this part of the world (Bryan Allegretto) have been attributing the lack of a strong PAC latitudinal SST gradient as one of the causes behind why the West Coast simply not getting the typical El Nino connection so far. Large scale ridging assisted by the warm pool has been directing moisture north of California, with no cold air around to tamp down snow levels when these features make landfall. When those warm ARs go away, cutoffs have been meandering just offshore and out of reach.

Moving into the new year it seems as though more windows will open, but the one lesson I've learned so far is no matter how strong an El Nino is in ONI, if you don't have that gradient in SST across the PAC throw away traditional ENSO climo for the West Coast. Synoptic fundamentals often win out, no matter how strong your subseasonal forcings are.

    Revelstoke looks pretty good

Yep, everything is completely normal. Nothing to see here, the average temps in New England being several degrees warmer than 30 years ago is completely irrelevant right? Good ol Wolfie knows more than the scientists who have been studying this shit longer than I’ve been alive.

you used to be laid back "we're gonna get a blizzard" kinda guy. what happened

  6. 0z gfs delivers a juicy 3” Rainer for NY State with the 27-28’th system..the trough has enough juice left to swing a few inches of snow thru elevated CT and many in mass on 29’th .
I fully expect it'll happen, just need to iron out how much

Just got a propane full-up, 79.6 gal at $4.099.  genny has been running for 70 hours, and with the periodic 5-minute tests and a couple short outages since April, the gallon-per-hour estimate we were given seems to be working.  Called CMP because a neighbor on our short road had read that the road had power restored - nope; Sat. 10 PM was the latest estimate.  Burns a bit that folks on the tar road 2000 feet away got lit up last night, but with only 3 customers on our road, it's understandable.

Bright blue 10-15 mph breeze, mid 20s.  Would be a beautiful day were the ground white.  Family scheduled to arrive tomorrow, though that's not firm, but when they get here things will look much like their home in SNJ.  Sad

My wife has reminded me we should have installed an on-demand LP genny, but we bought a Honda 7000IS inverter few years ago. Was pricey, but runs like a champ. In eco mode, I'm getting about 14hrs on ~4gal or about 0.29gal/hr. At $3.11/gal, that's costing us $0.90/hr. If we were using LP at an avg 1gal/hr, that would be $3.75 based on most recent tank fill. I know there are lots of benefits to on-demand, but I can't see spending 8-10K on such a unit for the convivence.

  8. From latest SR update:
