I super-hate early sunsets, we’re too far east in this time zone. It’d be nice if we could keep Eastern Daylight Time year round, but the U.S. government doesn’t allow DST year round, only opting out of DST, switching to Atlantic Standard Time year round would solve that problem, multiple New England states have recently proposed switching.
The flip side though is if we kept EDT then sunrise on Christmas Day for example would be 8:22am.

Sunset starts getting later again around 12/14 for those that really hate the early sunsets, but not by much.

Often its a no brainer when the first hard freeze is and then there are years like this...for example, I know I got down to 30 this morning but I didn't see any frost on anything. I love those mornings when there's a heavy frost on everything.

This morning looks like it could be my first hard freeze but I'm still not positive. Does anyone know what the official definition of a hard freeze is for this neck of the woods? It seems like each NWS office has it's own definition. For IMBY I use a definition I found years ago but haven't been able to find recently which was a low of 28 or temps below freezing for at least three consecutive hours. My low was only 30 this morning but I think I might have been below freezing long enough for this morning to count. I know to most of you none of this matters LOL. So going with today ties me with 11/1/10 for the second latest freeze since moving into my current house in 2005.

Closest i got was 34 but it managed to kill some of my potted plants and herbs.
My tomato plants are still green, they don;t look so great but are still alive as are the marigolds.

You dont think you get there tmrw night?
Maybe. I did hit 31 a couple weeks ago but it wasn't a hard freeze, it didn't stay below freezing long enough.

In other news, my latest hard freeze since moving here in May 2005 is 11/12/05, I have a feeling that 'record' will fall this year...

Has rooting for any particular outcome ever affected the actual outcome? Please advise.

I’m outside cleaning a few things up and I’m surprised by how breezy it is already.

Even in banter this is ridiculous.
We may never freeze again. Never ever.

So who else is gonna test their generator tomorrow ?
I needed mine in August and it ran like a champ, I think I’m good to go.

Crap, in that case I should get extra gas for the generator.

It seems like there's a demarcating line somewhere separating abysmal foliage south and decent foliage north. The sugar maples in my yard have been on fire this week, maybe the most vibrant since planting them about 15 years ago. I'll get a pic or two up soon.
I look forward to the photo. As you know, no two seasons are the same so taking photos on the same date will rarely reveal the same foliage results but it’s one way to compare. The take away for me is that my trees sadly never lit up this season.

This looks to clear out all the leaves from my yard once we get into the west winds, nice.

There's less daylight no matter how people want to spin it. I once heard it said, though I don't recall where or who said it, but daylight savings time is like cutting an inch off of the top of the blanket and sewing it to the bottom, the blanket remains the same size regardless.
