Yeah as someone who travels a lot its very tough to see these deals and not go somewhere. But my work is being really strict in traveling so I think I may stick exploring every piece of New York the next few months until the states get taken off the mandatory 2 week quarantine list.

Yeah. I've just lost all faith in the medical field after being in and out of hospitals the last year with my moms cancer. The one I go to is ranked 14th in the country. They are not as good as I thought they were.

Yes, but this strategy is completely contingent on a successful vaccine being developed in the very near future. One of which has never been created for after decades of research with various coronaviruses. The end result is virtually inevitable, just delaying it with shutdowns. Sweden realized this and went that route. The goal is obviously mitigation, containment, and treatment to help our hospitals not get overrun. We should only be shutting down if there is fear that our hospitals ICUs get full.

1000% agree. I got laid off awhile ago and as soon as my cobra ran out I got a sprained ankle playing hockey and my wife had to have emergency kidney stone surgery in the same week. It set me back quite a bit.

So what you're telling me is life is never going to be the same?

It's not just old and fat people getting this. Lots of younger people are getting infected by this virus. But 95%+ of the deaths are from old people and those with pre-existing conditions. Very few healthy people die from this. And yes I know there are examples of this, but they are few compared to the general sample size.

No one even talks about health insurance. You don't get health insurance while on UI. You have to pay for Cobra and its extremely expensive. Luckily I get health insurance through my employer instead of my wife or we'd be screwed. What happens when someone gets another serious illness or car accident while on UI with no health insurance? They go bankrupt essentially.

You contradict yourself. You want people to stay home and prevent the spread, but also go to work and be in contact with people?

I’d much rather get the virus then lose my house. Unless the government wants to pay me quite a bit of money to stay home, I’m going to go about my life. I refuse to live in fear. If people are scared, stay home. Each person should have an individual choice. Of course I’ll also do what I can to social distance when I’m out and about.

We should have targeted the high risk population (60+) with delivered groceries, a monthly income, and help from their local governments for anything that may need while we develop a vaccine. The rest of us should be practicing personal social distancing and the other protocols in place to help prevent spread to the less at risk population. We may never get a successful vaccine, so we simply cannot shut down forever.
