I love drastic temperature drops, especially during summer thunderstorms.  My best memory of a drastic temperature drop is going in to a Caps game years ago in a  very warm rainstorm and walking out of the game looking for our car in several inches of snow.  The snow was not predicted as far as I know.  I think it was probably around ‘97 or ‘98.

My favorite was March 8, 1995.  I remember mowing the lawn in shorts and a T-shirt in the afternoon, and coming out of a photography show with my dad around 9 at night to upper 20s and 2-3 inches of snow on the ground.  Wind chills were in the single digits the next morning.

  2. 38 with light flurries in N. Bethesda.  It'll be close to see if the last small patch of snow on my deck from 1/3 melts before any reinforcements arrive tonight.

In an hour, I'll be on Amtrak during the 12z runs, heading to NYC for a day appointment.  If the Amtrak wifi is per usual, I will have the internet speed of AOL 4.0 with a 56k modem.  But I'll try my best to do some pbp.

Wow.  It's been a couple years since I've been on Amtrak.  Excited to hear they've upgraded the WiFi experience from Prodigy 1.0 with a 300 baud modem.

I dunno - If I'm remembering correctly he described it as "dreadful" - but again might be remembering wrong. The day @Ji describes a 36" blizzard as "dreadful" we know we are all in trouble.

He found it "dreadful" because one of Ben Franklin's models had predicted 48" a few days before...

  5. Obs:  39 with rain on snow on snow on snow.  The glacier, which has been on my deck since Jan. 3 is really hurting.  Doesn't seem reinforcements are on the way.

They are REALLY closing schools these days for basically nothing.

    Am I missing something here?

Do they have to make up the days at the end of the year still?

These morning rush hour storms put the schools in an impossible position.  They have to decide on a delay by 5 AM and a closure by 7 AM.  With the forecast at that time still calling for a changeover around 8 with possible accumulation, so they take the safe option.  Otherwise, they risk getting pilloried if a school bus slides off the road.  Glad I don't have to make the decision.
