Got to the pool. Set our stuff down. They called it due to thunder.
Thank you for your sacrifice to the rain gods.
Thunder all around me, but just a quick 2 min downpour.

Absolutely dumping in N. Bethesda. I picked up an inch in the last 15 minutes, and it's still coming down hard. Up to 1.8 for the day.
Up to 3.3 for the day, and over 2.5 inches in the last 50 minutes. This has been one of the more impressive hour-long rains I've seen.

Congrats on the century. Perfect day for it. I only managed to squeeze in a quarter of a century between the kids' soccer games.

The only two spot that I think you could see locally, due to limited light pollution, are Blackwater Wildlife Refuge or Deal Island State Wildlife Management Area.
There used to be a spot near White's Ferry that was really dark. Not sure how all the sprawl in NoVa has affected it.

The aurora are visible down to NC tonight. Here's a shot from VA. Anyone seeing them in the metros?

some people, like myself and a handful of others, find the way weather patterns evolve interesting and try and forecast them. and then try and determine threats and track them too
And others of us without your skills really enjoy reading your thoughts. Thanks for all you've shared in this and the previous threads. I've learned a lot.

We had some moderate snow for ~15 min in N. Bethesda. Maybe a quarter inch on my deck table if I squint. If it can stick around for another 48 hours, I'm calling it a white Christmas dammit.

We had a bit of sleet mixing in earlier in N. Bethesda.

It can be vary from run to run given the ensembles involved, but it does give at least an early glimpse for some areas to keep an eye on in the days to come.
(My first post. How about that!)
Welcome! Good to see you here.

About 1.2" last night. Strobe-like lightning and thunder. Great show. Would watch again.
