Your exactly right. So long to have to wait for next winter with all the heat and humidity right around the corner. Seems like we are singing the same tune at this time every year around here now.

At the risk of sounding old, I’ve learned to appreciate everyday no matter what it brings:  heat, rain, or even a visit to the doctor or dentist.  :)

  2. My winter is certainly below average, but not a complete failure.  I measured 3.75” of snow over four light events (1.75”, 0.75”, 0.75”, 0.50”) and 0.50” of ice between two events (0.30”, 0.20”).  Better than last winter, but what stinks this year was the potential that was never really met.  We hear often about the players on the field, but all my players were nursing injuries.  Cold was only marginally cold.  Precip could never get its timing right.

Grade (unless this winter turns in an extra credit assignment):  D+

Definitely a classic case of radiation cooling with clear skies and calm winds. Low spots significantly cooler. Made for some heavy frost and icy spots from runoff. Today and tomorrow are classic coat in the morning, t-shirt in the afternoon weather.

I’m on a ridge in the northern part of the county.  I can see what you mean seeing how the lower stations are cooler.

I won’t complain though.  I’m taking my father-in-law to the driving range today and golf course tomorrow.  Looking forward to some nice weather.

  4. While looking at various stations this morning, I noticed a wide variation in temperatures over a short distance.  I’m 36.1 while airport is 29.  One station near me is 35.8 while another is 30.9.

I was at 30.0 at 5:40 AM, but the temp just took off like a rocket since then.

Serious question, if you had 3 options
    A) one 24-30” Storm with temps in teens and blowing snow but afterwards had a 3-5 yr SN Drought

B..) One 10-15” Storm and then a 2/3 yr drought

    c) Consistently 4/5 3-5” events per year but never more than 8” for a decade.

I’d lean towards C.  Four 4” snows every season—with one of them during Christmas—would be my ideal winters.

I think of it as would I rather eat one nice dinner every evening or have a huge feast on Saturday while fasting for the next week?

I hope to have a better year with my garden than last year. Had to replant twice due to too much rain. Had the most beautiful garden, but did not produce anything other than some green beans.

Last year, we had a lot of luck with okra and decent success with yellow squash.  Bell peppers didn’t do so well.

I'm looking forward to it. Have been vegetable gardening for many years, but just got a little hoop house last year, and it's been incredible for seed starting. I'm going to inventory my seeds this weekend, place my orders as needed, and consider germing some greens.

What do you have the most luck with?  We’ve found okra to be difficult to NOT grow well.  The deer enjoy eating the leaves though.  I end up picking it too late half the time.  I’m resolving this year to do better.

  8. The 2020-2021 winter isn’t over yet, but our 2021 spring and summer lawn and garden season is right around the corner.  When the weather isn’t severe and tropical cyclones aren’t heading our way, talk about your garden, plants, and lawn here.

    I’m ready for spring!  :sun:

I think it's on to next winter.  It just ain't happenin this winter.  Hopefully we have all learned a lesson about these models this year.

Just 286 days until the next meteorological winter.  :cory:

Y’all promise me that we’ll all stick around and post severe weather and tropical cyclone obs.  Maybe I’ll start a spring/summer lawn and garden thread.
