I think the temperature plays a role in how loud they are. Obviously they are on the way down but I noticed yesterday they were silent all morning but once we got near 70 degrees they became quite noticeable.
Mowing grass high accomplishes a lot. You will mow less because the grass will grow slower. You will have more moisture retained in the soil. And weed growth, including clover, will be greatly diminished.
If you have a grass catcher in your mower, grass clippings on a garden are the greatest thing ever. Holds moisture in the soil and there is some fertilization that takes place. Need about 3-4” depth on it though.
Another bonus is no weeds.
