In other news the GFS has a big rain event early next week-some parts of New England get 3-5 inches of rain. Locally everyone here would get 1-2 inches verbatim.

Cmc and icon also. We really need the rain

Horrible outside worst stretch of weather by far this summer.  No end in sight unless you believe the cold front will get here Thursday which it will probably end up being hung up over the area with the continuation of warm to hot with high dew points

  3. Wow at the WAR On the latest guidance.   Not moving that out any time soon.  Looks like warm to hot and uncomfortable for the foreseeable future.  Next week's cool down is gone the only good news is that there'll be rain chances almost every day for the next week

  4. Starting tomorrow we lose 2 minutes A-day of daylight.  Should be real noticeable in the next few weeks.  Low dew points continue to be the theme of this summer With only 5 more weeks to go to Labor Day weekend

Agree about the evolution of the ridge.  It look Monday still looks to be the next chance for rain / storms as warm front begins moving through and setting the stage for the next roasting.

By Tue (8/2) the Western Atlantic ridge is building way west and eventually joins the Rockies/Plains Ridge by the middle of the Week Wed (8/3) and Thu (8/4) with a blast of strong heat coming in by next Fri (8/5) and through next weekend as it looks now, with the euro bringning in >20c 850 temps at times. The ridge contracts and resurges into the week of Mon (8/8) with overall a hot pattern to at times strong heat.  Still some details to be worked out that could foster storms around the rim of the ridge and Ridge could build over and force onshore or NE flow at times to keep it just warm to hot on days.  But overall dog days of summer and some of the hottest Aug temps sustained since 2015 or more.

There isnt any sign of WAR week of 8/8 onwards with ridge in the west and trough in the East.

It's hot.  But thank god @binbissohelped keep those dews away today or it would feel miserable.  This heatwave, while historic in parts of NJ, doesn't feel all that bad compared to what it could feel like.

Hey RJay,  Definitely historic for Newark to hit 100 on 5 consecutive days.  I was out in your neck of the woods today at Jones beach beautiful day 84 on the car thermometer in parking lot once I got to the northern state car thermometer read 98 most of the way home.  Water was cold my feet were numb after 5 minutes.  Water temps probably in the 60's.  Was hoping to see some sharks but that never materialized.

    I think you'll be seeing the 3 H's in about 3 weeks.

    WX/PT

Yes  We'll finally get to see the WAR in August.  It has been absent so far this summer as blue wave has Posted about.

I think everyone reacts differently to the heat and humidity. For some a tropical type climate is comfortable and others prefer the desert.

    WX/PT

Yes I agree.  I love 95゚ degrees with a dew point of 60. 82/75 is uncomfortable.  The big story of this summer Is now the high temps with this current heat wave but also the low dews through July 22nd

June was cooler than the last few years. But July is warmer than last year and that’s not even what I’m referring to…

when is the last time newark hit 100 4 days in a row? You’re just wrong man.

OK I'm wrong you're right this is the worst heat wave ever will we survive

  10. 2 minutes ago, Rjay said:

The thing that gets me is that we're solidly AN against the highest normals we've ever had

We're solidly above normal this month  But the low dew points thus far has made it more tolerable.  The last several July's felt a lot worse even if we weren't as warm as this year

It doesn’t matter what you feel, the facts and records prove you’re wrong.

Please just go check the White Plains Data since Wednesday.  I live 4 1/2 miles South of there   And I've had more rain than there since Wednesday.

  12. 6 minutes ago, bluewave said:

Maybe you are just getting used to the warmer temperatures around White Plains. Plus it’s usually cooler than other parts of our area. White Plains is currently having one of its longest streaks with low temperatures remaining above 70°. The high of 97° a few days ago was the 5th warmest for July and highest since 2012. The hourly dewpoint of 78° a few days ago was the 5th highest for July. So while your temperatures are more tolerable than other parts of the region, they have been rising just like every other spot over the years.

Global warming is real No one can deny that. I think you would agree with me that dew point this summer so far have been much lower than the past several years Which makes the heat much more tolerable.  Not every 90゚ day is the same

What’s your agenda? Climate change denier or something?

I have  No agenda.  Why would you think that?  I love weather and I'm just stating the conditions here?  You say its Going to be one of the hottest And longest heat waves on record  And that's fine if you feel that way.  But not for me in my area I've seen worst in the past

  14. 7 minutes ago, psv88 said:

We’ve had many very humid days down in the city/island. Maybe in westchester it’s different (I doubt it)

    96 now

Wednesday Friday and today dew points were in the upper fifties and low sixties except after the thunderstorms went through by that time the temperatures dropped into the seventies.  The only uncomfortable day was Thursday here.  A 95゚ heat index is not that impressive for the heart of summer but maybe for Long Island it is

  15. 4 minutes ago, forkyfork said:

is that how you're rationalizing the fifth hot summer in a row? remember when we got summers where 90 was a struggle? i do.

It really hasn't been that hot here very tolerable.  You'd have to agree that we've had many days with very low dew points for July.  Obviously it's getting warmer.  The worst heat wave I remember Lasted about 3 weeks from late June to about July 10th.  90゚ temperatures with high dews and very few thunderstorms in that period.  I believe it happened in the nineties but I don't recall the year

  16. Just now, forkyfork said:

so you're triggered by other people's hot weather

Nope it's absolutely gorgeous out.   But this is nowhere close to the worst heat wave we've ever experienced

  17. 2 minutes ago, doncat said:

Not saying every station has done it but enough of the area including my station has been close to 100 ° now for four days...heat index numbers may be a bit lower with the lower dew points but still advisory numbers.

I've had 6 90゚ days this month today will make 7. only 1 day above 95.  highest temperature 97 on Thursday.  We shouldn't broadbrush the entire area there are many micro climates in this forum
