The store had a full display of snow shovels so I think we’re okay. Maybe that only works in the short range though? We’ll see I guess.

Heard the first rumble of thunder in awhile. At least it’s something to break the monotony for a bit.

19°. A small clipper is coming through so we have some snow tv.

-3F up here this morning. 

Just a tiny bit below 0 at -2 up here. Think we got to about 5 above earlier. Hopefully tomorrow is toastier by comparison.

-14°F this morning, luckily not as windy. 

It’s now -17°F, I don’t know how much lower it will go if any, but it probably won’t get above zero for a bit.

-15°F it somehow still manages to go down. I stayed inside today because I don’t actually have what I need to stay warm, despite thinking I did.

-13°F now. I think the building is popping because it’s so cold…

It’s -5°F already. Perhaps a little sooner than expected.

That’s a good point. I brought plenty of layers and coverings with me, and I usually have to take breaks anyways.

6.8° now. Still falling fast! I don’t think it’s snowing anymore, but I don’t get radar here so I can’t tell. Very windy.

16.9°, it definitely snowed think it still is, but it’s so windy I can’t tell how much.

It pretty much rained all day here in the mountains. I’ll try to be up early to document the freeze. I really want to see some falling snowflakes.

31° and windy in the mtns. Think we had freezing rain earlier. Followed by a dusting.

A -epo is actually pretty rare during a big snowstorm here because a ridge over AK often puts the trough too far west and a storm would cut unless there was a VERY negative NAO. The more typical progression to snow here was a -epo a week or so before the storm that helped inject cold into North America. Then the epo ridge progresses to the pna space with a trough near AK and the cold source cuts off. But the storm that would then come would take advantage of the left over domestic cold.  The cold didn’t get immediately routed and annihilated by warm pac puke in like 7 seconds like it seems to now!  If we need a direct flow from Siberia to get snow we’re in deep deep bleep because that’s actually NOT a good pattern for big snowstorms historically. 90% of our big snows did not happen during cross polar flow but used domestic air masses that were just  cold enough.
