PSEG Long Island saying their employees are on call but not to expect much help from surrounding areas. Not sure I’ve ever seen them say straight up to expect outages to be longer than usual. I certainly hope the inversion helps here because it’s not to comforting seeing the NAM and Euro with 70+ for multiple runs out this way.

Our employees will be ready to work through the holiday to ensure that we can continue to deliver reliable power. We expect to have limited assistance from neighboring utilities as they also deal with this storm and holiday schedules. While we will continue efforts to add additional resources, outage durations may be longer than usual.

    Which means they’ll do nothing

A good amount of snow melted here the last 48 hours but of course that isn’t the biggest threat down here. We lost a lot of weaker trees from Isaias, Sandy, Mar 2010 etc but Christmas without power is something no one’s looking forward to, and it’ll happen to a lot of people if we have to deal with 70+ mph gusts.

Outside of tropical systems when was the last time our area had 70+ mph gusts from a nor’easter? Not counting the immediate east end of LI

I took advantage of the snow for a little skiing in the neighborhood.  Even got a little downhill section in yesterday:

Heavy snow will develop over the area through 7pm. Snowfall rates of
1 to possibly two inches per hour are likely to develop.

I have. I believe it was March 22 2018 Islip airport which is two miles from me had 5” in one hour. They had 9” of snow in two hours

Look I hope your correct but with ocean temperatures well into the 40s and a low near the coast or even slightly inland, how does Long Island get over a foot of snow. We need the low offshore with a Northeast wind, not an east wind which is what it will be if the GFS is correct. Hopefully the Euro stays more offshore and ends up being correct

Ocean temps are still low 50s lol

Upton's point and click-lol. Maybe an inch at Captree-a 30 minute drive from me and about 15 miles away. Here, "most likely" snow is at 11" and point/click has 8-14". Long Beach "most likely" is 3" and JFK 10 miles away 11". Wonder why NW Suffolk wasn't included in the warning then?

My guess for my backyard is still 6-7" of snow and gunk. Hopefully I'm being conservative. I can see it being a few inches if these awful NAM runs are right, or if it's a miracle like this Euro run seems to be, could be 12".

NW Suffolk seems to always jackpot on Long Island..I am expecting 3-6” here in holbrook
