  1. Fairly dramatic shift on the model being used by the government, incorporating more recent data, with overall deaths in the US decreasing and peak dates for many states (including MD ans VA) moved up by nearly a month. https://covid19.healthdata.org/projections
  2. I don’t think everything will be shutdown, but I also don’t think we are going to be seeing things like MLB, college football and the NFL with live audiences, if at all. I hope I’m wrong.
  3. As long as the virus is out there, the economy is going to suffer. We could open everyone’s doors next month and tell them that they are free to reopen everything but do you think people are going to the movies, traveling on planes, eating at crowded restaurants, etc.? There is no economic recovery until we have a vaccine or an effective therapeutic.
  4. Yes, Dr. Fauci has been saying this at pretty much every briefing this week (except for the one he missed).
  5. Every day for at least the next two weeks is going to be the deadliest day.
  6. Probably not anytime soon. https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-fauci-those-who-recover-will-be-immune-2020-3
  7. You may right. Dr. Birx said today that she is seeing a lot of these countries starting to bend their curves. We are not, mostly because people are not doing enough social distancing in certain areas. She specifically referred to the metropolitan areas in Louisiana, Michigan and Illinois. California is apparently doing well at this point.
  8. By the same token, you could ask why wasn’t Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands and Austria prepared. Because each of those countries has more cases per capita than we do.
  9. Well then we are (sadly) right on target.
  10. I’m probably not saying anything everyone doesn’t already know, but it’s way too early to draw any conclusions about death rates at this point. Given the wide discrepancies with testing and reporting, we probably won’t have a true figure for years, if at all. Current death rates are all over the place: Italy- 11.9% Spain- 8.9% Germany- 1.1% USA- 2.2% France - 7% UK - 8% South Korea- 1.7% Switzerland - 2.7% China (FWIW) - 4.1%
  11. Ok. Makes sense. Virginia just put out a similar order. There are so many exceptions though. For example, we can still go fishing.
  12. Here is the order. Maybe I’m missing it but I don’t see any separate restrictions on crossing state lines. https://governor.maryland.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Gatherings-FOURTH-AMENDED-3.30.20.pdf
  13. I just read the actual order and it says nothing about crossing state lines specifically. It also says that caring for pets and livestock is an essential activity.
  14. 3? Doesn’t KBS come out in Feb/March?
  15. They are not taxable income. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2020/03/25/all-you-wanted-to-know-about-those-tax-stimulus-checks-but-were-afraid-to-ask/#24b7145d1f9c
  16. At today’s press conference, both doctors asked anyone who has travelled from NYC metropolitan area in the past week to self-quarantine for 14 days. More than half the new cases in the US are in New York and they are concerned about people spreading it from New York.
  17. Well, Trump said we’re reopening for business very soon. At the same time all the Governors are shutting everything down. Nice to have a consistent message.
  18. It’s not much but it’s at least something. https://m.jpost.com/Breaking-News/Coronavirus-may-be-slowing-in-Italys-worst-hit-region-governor-621182
  19. Honestly, this is possibly going to end up more significant than any of those IMO.
  20. I kinda knew it was inevitable but it’s still a shock to hear it.
  21. That’s right. At the end of the day, if the most dire predictions don’t end up happening, people will complain that we overreacted. But what they won’t understand is that the mitigation measures will have worked. In other words, if the shutdowns work, it will end up looking like an overreaction.
  22. The flu has over an 8% death rate in Italy?
  23. Yeah, the death rate there is astounding and much higher than anywhere else in the world. I haven’t seen much information on the age range of these cases. I would assume most, but obviously not all, are elderly.
