We might get 3 hecs in a season before we get one real ice storm
Unfortunately we had our 20+ yr ice storm back in Nov.... drive across Afton Mountain towards Waynesboro, looks like a giant hand of God karate chopped the tops off of every single tree ...

Interesting. Didn’t hear/see it in Crozet.
It wasnt alot... I'm on the other side not far from route 340.... There was thunder and lightining on 29 south of Covesville earlier... And some people posting on DTs page from Lynchburg about thunder... Energetic atmosphere this evening....

Little off topic for this upcoming system .. been seeing alittle bit of lightining down here near Afton Mt... first lightining/thunder of the year !

While its only rain here at the foot of Afton Mt, there is over a half inch of ice on the trees and signs on the very top of Afton and particularly along the road past Swannanoa a couple hundred feet higher up .......

The late May deluge that dropped 10 to 12 inches in central Albemarle county..... just west of Charlottesville.... 3.7 at my house roughly 20 miles west of there...The heaviest convective rain in this general area since June 95 when 30.5 fell in Madison County..... NOT my favorite event because unfortunately it turned deadly..... But it was the most extreme event locally. ...For my area it was the mid Nov ice storm... That night was insane... Booms , bangs and cracks the entire night , with multi colored lights lighting up the sky.... Still have debris piles scattered around eastern Augusta.....

Sounds like a Civil War battlefield in eastern Augusta county near Waynesboro... limbs snapping and huge chunks of whole trees coming down..no snow just straight freezing rain, with some sleet..1.35 melted precip, with at least .4 inches of ice on the trees... Pines are taking a %$%#$ beating...

All snow here now at least at the moment..... heavy enough even after 1.5 inches of rain and 37 degrees , its starting to accumulate like slushy ice cream on the cars and on the back deck....
