I’m going to attempt to go skiing today before the winds kick in. Gotta get that powder! There should be a nice window of calm today before things start rocking.

My expectations have been exceeded again. Snow ended around 3am. Current temp of -6F. Full throttle winter. 

Have had a nice extended period of moderate snow with visibilities at or below a mile. Closing in on 5” 

Sigh…WAA always wins. We’ve risen to  1F with steady light snow.

I think it was @Stebowho joked last winter that the models are digesting too much data these days and even a “bird fart” is changing the outcome. 

Stacking quickly in these temperatures.

Up to 24.5” on the season. The last several years we’ve started hot.

-4 and the snow just started here. 

-8F and clouding over. 4-7” in the grid today. Let’s see what happens. 

I don’t think I’ve ever been under a Winter Storm Warning while also having a Winter Storm Watch following on it’s heels but here we are.

Just saw 8 Trumpeter Swans fly overhead. A bit late fellas. They might be doomed.

1.5” refresher snowfall yesterday. Morning low of -2F was the coldest of the season so far.

I was thinking this was a big factor. I’ve got a flight out of MSP 6am Saturday morning, long after impacts in my area are through, but I’m sure I’ll be offered a voucher anyway.

5-10” of snow and wind gusts to 55mph

I suppose it’s time to turn on the MSP magnet. Going to be a distracted workweek tracking this.

low of 0 overnight. Coldest of the season. 

Mood flakes keep stacking. Another 0.4” today. It’s been snowing for 5 straight days more or less.

On/off snow showers all day. 6.1" at the airport this morning. Now we have a concrete block snowpack.

4.9” of snowfall yesterday on .52” of precipitation. Got a few more inches overnight as temperatures improved. Not sure how much of that was after midnight but light snow persists for now.

12pm airport obs had 3.4” of snowfall. It’s been snowing all day but as a “white rain” if we weren’t under the heavier returns. My guess is the 6pm update will only have 1-2” additional.
 

Once more a couple degrees colder and we’d probably be looking at double the accumulation. UHI wins again. Should be able to snag another inch tonight with slightly colder temps. 
 

North Shore of superior was the big winner. Duluth airport will most likely report over 20” at 6pm and I’d expect numerous 30”+ reports further up north. 

MSP only picked up 0.42” of precipitation from phase 1 of this system, which was below the low end of most model guidance. 0.16” of that was snow, far less liquid precipitation then forecast. Core of metro got shafted on snowfall last night but it looks like a quick 4-6” is in order overnight and tomorrow. I’m guessing the snow water equivalent will be less then 10-1.

More of a mist then rain. Suburbs did better but only a sloppy 0.5” imby
