  1. The official storm total for Minneapolis finished with exactly 15” of new snow. This is now the 3rd snowiest July 1 - January 5th period on record with 48.2” to date.

This is the 2nd largest snowstorm I’ve experienced since moving to Minneapolis, the first being the April 13-16 2018 blizzard which put down 15.8”

Snow-depth is somewhere between 16-20” imby. Lots of compacting due to the heavy nature of much of the recent snowfall. The sidewalk canyons remind me of February 2019 when we received 40” of snow and depths peaked around 24”

Since December 1st we’ve received 3.10” of liquid equivalent water. All in the form of snow and most of it locked up in the snowpack.

  2. I’m a little suspect of MSP only reporting a trace of snow between midnight and 6am. Its still snowing and we’ve picked up another half inch at least since I woke up at 530am. Either way, incredible storm, massive over performance and the snowpack here is nothing short of impressive.

MSP has had incredible luck so far this season.  Nearly every system has take the perfect track.  The current upper low could not have stalled in a better spot.

Bone dry in summer, buried in snow in winter. I’ll take it. Our seasonal average is 51.2” which we are rapidly approaching. Over 45” on the season now.

  4. It won’t stop puking snow in Minneapolis.

6” at the midnight observation. Probably an additional 3-4” since then, roads are a complete mess. Trees are bending under the weight of all the snow and we’ve smashed past 40” on the year in the first week of January.

You have the hot hand this winter. Usually one area it wants to snow at in our subforum every year.

We can’t seem to get any precipitation during the spring/summer months but have had no problem in winter. Cards just fall that way sometimes I guess.

  6. I’ve been quietly watching the system coming up early next week. The metro has been riding the line between cold rain (GFS) and warning criteria snows (Euro) MSP pulled the trigger on a WSW today for 3-7”.

Personally I think there’s a big divide per usual between northern and southern ends of the metro with 3” south and 6-8”+ north. Been fun to track but wish there was more potential across the subforum to aid the discussion.
