Hell of a game last night. Allen is the real deal!  Won't even get into the OT rules.... Was hoping for a Cincy vs Bills afc championship like in 88.  As a Bengals fan, there is room on our fellow market team bandwagon for the playoffs ;)

I'm rooting for the Bengals hard on Sunday but I have a feeling that the Chiefs are going to roll.

If the 18Z NAM is right then even SE VA barely sees anything with this..  That would be quite a bust a 3-4 days

If it's that much of a miss, I don't even feel bad about it.  Wasn't meant to be.  Onto the next.  At least I can enjoy the playoff games and not have to worry about shoveling/salting.

Last winter month where Central Park averaged at least 2.0 degrees below normal: December 2017.

Really puts into perspective how much things have changed around here.  Above normal is the new normal this time of year.

All they care about is snow. Wind and coastal flooding events generally do not receive much coverage until after the fact.

During Ida, the only local network that offered continuous coverage that evening was News 12 New Jersey.  The local CBS, NBC and ABC affiliates only covered it on their scheduled newscasts.

I noticed you guys keep mentioning Lee Goldberg. I see AccuWeather still has 3 to 6 inches of snow.

What are they seeing that we aren’t?

The mainstream outlets are sometimes a little behind the curve in terms of updating their forecasts.  I'm sure they'll reflect the changes by this evening.

Gets uglier and uglier by the run. GFS is all rain for city and even up to I287. Maybe thats almost better than having a half inch of slop be washed away.

Agreed.  That's just a tease...and if it won't stick around anyway, what's the point?  I've got some things to do on my day off Monday anyway, so a big snowstorm would have put a wrinkle in those plans.

Rooting for BUF to beat the Pats. Because who likes New England?

    Nobody. Nobody likes New England.

Bills all the way.  I'm a Giants fan, so I don't think my team will be in the playoffs for awhile.  I'd love to see Buffalo's fan base celebrate a championship.  Beating the Pats in the playoffs would mean a lot for them as well.  If not the Bills, I wouldn't mind seeing the Bengals make a run.  I like Joe Burrow and t's been a long time for those fans also.

I'm with you on 'Danny Dimes' but to be fair the NYG offense (and esp OL and coaches decision making) have been brutally bad in his era. Barkley is injured a lot (another 1st rounder largely wasted) and receivers spotty at best.  Hard to fully assess but I do think we've seen enough to know he isn't the long term QB solution.

Agreed.  Football is the ultimate team game, so it's not fair to lay this all at his feet.  You especially need the line play to be there on both sides of the ball.  If you can't rush the passer and protect your quarterback or create holes for your backs, you're in trouble.

You guys have to get rid of Daniel Jones, he sucks and was over drafted by quite a bit.

They picked Jones way too high.  I want to like him but yeah...I just don't think he has what it takes.  Turnover machine and he is going to get popped one day given how much he runs.  I still prefer a dropback type passer like Brady or Rodgers.  I know that makes me a football dinosaur lol.

  10. For what it's worth, 1/17 is the anniversary of a pretty big snowstorm in the NYC metro area, also an MLK Day storm.  That one occurred in 1994.  It was the same day as the big Northridge earthquake in California.

100%.  Maybe the Dolphins ex-HC is a better option than Judge? He seemed to have no problem turning 1-7 into 8-9...

Giants are attritioning their younger fan base.  This is part of why there are so many Stealer, Cowboy, Raiders and Dolphins fans in my generation, from the northeast writ large. In the 60s and 70s the Giants, Jets, Bills and Patriots mainly stunk. So younger people gravitated to the successful teams of that era.  Call it front running but it is what it is.  I myself haven't sat down to watch more than than a handful of full Giants matches in 3 or 4 years, esp after about mid-season when they're 6/7 losses deep.  What's the point?

I'd definitely kick the tires on Flores...but someone else is probably going to swoop in and hire him.  He'll land on his feet.

No question about that.  My uncle is a Steelers fan for that very reason.  He's 57 and always saw the Steelers playing in big games in the 70's while he was growing up.  The Giants and Jets were so hideous, they were a complete afterthought.  When you're young, it's embarrassing to root for a bad team also.  I remember a lot of kids my age (I'm 39) being huge Cowboys and 49ers fans in the 90's.  Everyone had their Starter jackets.  You need to give people a reason to care, a reason to watch.  Your real diehards will always be there but you're going to lose a lot of other people.  How can you get excited about a team that's out of contention for all intents and purposes by Halloween every season?  Nobody expects a Super Bowl or conference championship every season but at least be interesting and competitive.  The worst thing for a sports franchise is to be bad, boring and irrelevant.

I wasn’t alive then but my dad says it’s the worst since the 70s when he was a kid:axe:

Horrendous.  Two winning seasons the entire decade.  Neither the Giants or Jets made the playoffs in the 70's.  That's one reason why you see so many middle-aged Cowboys, Dolphins, Steelers and Raiders fans around here.  My uncle latched onto the Steelers because the local teams were so awful and he always saw the Steelers playing a big, nationally televised game on Sunday afternoon or Monday night.  Not only were the Giants bad, they were basically unwatchable to boot.  The worst thing a sports team can be is bad and boring.

Yeah, likely more mistakes from NYG Ownership keeping Judge IMO.  If you're changing GMs and need to revamp (again) why  not let the new GM be involved with Staff selection?  Or maybe they already have chosen a new GM behind the scenes and he is ok with Judge.

That's a possibility.  You have to tell the GM that he won't get to pick his own coach if he wants the job, at least not right away.  It's probably just as well because I don't think the Giants will be good next year regardless...but to me, it's pretty clear that  Judge doesn't have the chops.  They'll start 0-6 or 1-5 and he'll get the ax. I just think the organization needs to clean house and get a fresh start.  They've lost their way as a franchise and clearly need new voices in there.  They're in a tough division also.  Dallas is usually good (even though they haven't won the whole thing in a long time), Philly's rebuild seems ahead of schedule and Washington even looked decent at times this season.  This isn't going to be easy.

Yea, wtf?  It's hard being a Dolphin fan recently.

Tua better get out of there before they ruin him.  I can't understand how you fire a coach who almost got you to the playoffs after a 1-7 start.  Would have been only the second time that a team starting off that poorly got to the postseason.  The 1970 Bengals won the AFC Central after opening the season 1-6.

Meanwhile, Joe Bleeping Judge keeps his job after a 4-13 season where the Giants looked worse with each passing week.  The NFL can be a strange business.

In the tri-state? I think 20s yes, but teens for highs is a tall order due to the proximity to the ocean. Meaning, has it happened, yes, but you seem to imply those type of temps used to happen with regularity, which is not the case.

In any event the projected hi temp for my area tomorrow is 17.

Yeah, I think the lowest maximum average temp in NYC is 38.  This isn't exactly Minneapolis or Fargo.  Yes, we get extreme cold but it's not as common as some people might think.

I kill it on 12/26.   Can't wait to take down the dead wreaths and tree every year but we hold off til 1/1 for that.

You'll love this...my girlfriend and I kept our artificial tree up all year after Christmas 2020.  We were so bummed out over the virus (especially pre-vaccine) that we needed something to make us smile when things got really heavy.  She's a nurse at a hospital, so she was also going through some major stress for obvious reasons.  I recall some people putting their holiday lights up in the early days of the pandemic to lift people's spirits.
