How long did it snow before it started laying and what is your temp?
Maybe 20 minutes if that. I’m at 29 now.

Update from chaser earlier near Collierville area...he had to pull over. Near whiteout/blizzard like conditions.
Can confirm, ripping at the house right now 55 miles east of Collierville. Got about 2 inches on the ground already, it’s coming down steady.

The nowcast/obs rule now. It overperforming in Arkansas during the day is a good sign.
Its basically every model vs the NAM right now too it seems.
Temps barely got to 50 in Collierville this morning while I was at work. We were forecast to hit 59. Cold air definitely pouring in quicker than forecasted. I’m headed home now, I’ll update throughout the day To let y’all know how it looks on the west side of the state

I’m really concerned with some of my shrubs for Sunday morning, especially my Jap Maple and Cherry tree. Would 2 or 3 inches of snow on them be enough insulation? Or should I cover them Saturday night, Sunday morning?
.They’ll be ok, they’re more resilient then some lead on. With snow cover you’ll have perfect natural insulation on them

Starting to feel the front pushing into Memphis, wind has been picking up all morning. Starting to really feel the temps changing now. Started out sunny this morning which has transitioned to overcast and cloudy now

Does the Jap maple already have tender young shoots and leaves? If so, man I don’t know. Hopefully the snow will insulate it. I’ve seen cherries in bloom covered with 2in of snow and they were fine but it wasn’t nearly as cold as the projections for Sunday AM. Unfortunately at 10 degrees (and maybe lower depending on snowpack) I don’t know that you will be able to do very much more than the snow will do. If you cover them today with the sun out you will bake them and kill them. If you cover them with a sheet and get a heavy snow on them better have something to prop them up with so the sheet doesn’t get too heavy with the snow and crush them. Then there’s the whole so cold it may freeze inside the”dome” even with the sheets the wind also does as much damage as anything
Snow will always insulate it, you’ll be fine. We aren’t covering greens today for this very reason. I wouldn’t stress about it

@AMZ8990, how close are you to that band in west TN that the RGEM is depicting. That could be a good thump!
Thanks for sharing man. I’m right in the middle of the heaviest snow axis that stretches through 2-3 counties on that RGeM run, fingers crossed brother! Looks like it stretches from south eastern Fayette county into my county which is hardeman county.

Will be interesting to see how the model runs trend today, seems like a pretty good look at this point. A lot can change in 48 hours though. Looks like winter weather advisories are up now in northern Arkansas. I’m curious to see what NWS does for advisories in west, middle, and east TN over the next day or so.

I didn’t know you were a course superintendent. That’s awesome. I worked at a course in Knoxville for 7 years just on Saturday morning cutting cups and mowing greens. I don’t think there’s a colder job than mowing greens in late fall, early spring.
.Yeah man, I appreciate it! And that’s cool, you know how hard it is to find a good setup person then. And yeah those 5:30-6am starts get cold in those timeframes you mentioned, it was pretty miserable out there today honestly. The wind gets to gusting and it just cuts right through you. Mood flakes made it a little better though

Light snow this morning in Collierville also, light dusting on everything as we were cutting limbs off the entrance road to the course. Wasn’t expected but was not surprised to see it given how cold it is and how overcast it was this morning.

Here’s one pic from the course I manage, pic doesn’t really do it justice though. We dodged a bullet here in southeast Memphis but we still have a lot of cleanup to do around the course. It sounds like up north of the city around Millington got hit the worst. Lots of power outages in Shelby and Fayette county today. Ice storm warning area was spot on as I could tell a huge difference driving from a winter weather advisory county into the ice storm warning county. NWS did a good job warning folks

.Same thing down my way, the precip that came through late last put down just enough freezing rain/sleet to make the streets an ice rink this morning. Highways are a little better, backroads are treacherous

Looks like Marion Arkansas has a good bit of sleet/ice on the ground. Roads are covered with sleet. Memphis is reporting some light icing right now, 60 miles east of memphis at my place it’s just rain Right now though.

Under a winter weather advisory in my county. They’re Calling for up to an inch of snow/sleet and a .10 of an inch of freezing rain. The county bordering me is under a ice storm warning though. Will be interesting to see how Far East the ice gets
