  1. Getting fringed in N Arlington. N/W suburbs win again.
  2. I expect DCA will end around 9 inches, so let's tentatively rank this storm in comparison with storms of the decade for DC. This is just for the district and surrounding areas. 1 - Feb 5-6 2010 (snowiest snow snow) 2 - Jan 22-23 2016 (an actual blizzard) 3 - Feb 9-10 2010 (another actual blizzard, just not as much snow) 4 - Jan 12-13 2018 (8-9", long duration, cold, two-parter) 5 - Feb 12-13 2014 (7-13", annoying dryslot/melting/sleet but cool ULL) 6 - 3/17/14 - (anomalous 7-8", melted quickly but a positive bust) Then there's a bunch of 4-6" events that are hard to rank individually, Jan 31 2010, Jan 21 2014, the February and March storms of 2014 and 2015, March 17 2017, PD2.5.
  3. 8" in North Arlington with heavy snow ongoing. Looks like the gravy train will run out to the south sometime soon. Hoping for 9" as it pivots.
  4. Not in the highest dbz bands, don't have dendrites, but still ripping snow here. approaching 7.5" if not more.
  5. HRRR has another 3-4" for northern Virginia. 10" possible.
  6. Heavy snow in Arlington. 7.2" on the ground. 4th best snowstorm for DC of the decade?
  7. Very, very cool phenomenon happening that should be of interest to snow enthusiasts. At 1 PM, it was pretty bright with temperatures a little below freezing 31.6 and moderate to heavy snow in the band, it struggled to accumulate on the road. Now at 2:30, with moderate snow and temperatures actually rising to 32, snow is accumulating on the road because of the loss in solar radiation in the past hour.
  8. Mega deathblob in SW FFX county about to slam into DC/Arl.
  9. 6.1" in N Arlington as moderate snow continues to fall. Radar looks sexy. Road trying to cave again.
  10. Persistent area of subsidence in South Arlington and Alexandria has led to a good amount of melting there.
  11. 5.7" in Arlington. Beautiful with moderate snow ongoing at 28 degrees. HRRR says I should be able to reach 8"! Very happy, and I apologize to all the people I doubted.
  12. Temperature has gone up 0.4 in the past hour. I walk outside and hear 'drip, drip, drip'.
  13. Little bit discouraging that its snowing moderately with nice flakes at 29 and the snow off the sidewalk and road is still melting.
  14. Radar already looking better to the SW. Dendrites seem to have replaced pixie dust as the default dark blue/light green on radar snowflake type.
  15. Dendrites have finally arrived, but they'll leave quickly as the lull starts. Eyeballing about 2 inches, hoping to get 1 or 2 more tonight before temperatures get above freezing tomorrow.
  16. No dendrites in sight as snow on roads and sidewalks continues to melt.
  17. 1" in N Arlington, but road just wet as salt has had time to work with the constant lulls. Expecting another 1-2".
  18. Light pixie dust flurries in N Arlington. Visibility high.
  19. I apologize for saying 0.3" instead of 0.4". "Not even close".
  20. HRRR has about 0.3" of precip for DC. 3 or 4 inches seems reasonable for DC.
  21. Snow has stopped in Arlington. Simply shocking that northern areas are doing better so far.
  22. Exactly. Why the GFS shouldn't be ignored. 2-3" seems reasonable for DC.
