    wow quite the legendary period! JFK hit 104, EWR hit 105 and LGA hit 107! Looks like NYC was the coolest at 103 at the peak of the heat How did NYC ever hit 106 in July 1936 during the peak of the dust bowl? I wonder how hot JFK, LGA and EWR would have been on that day had they existed? Maybe one or more of them would have been hotter than EWR's July 2011 record of 108?

    yes it was the high for the entire year lol- three 90 degree days that entire year and two of them were in May and one day at the end of August when it barely hit 90.

    I would have loved the lower humidity, warm or cool....I still remember my first viewing of the Perseids in August 1986, no haze and 50 degree lows! That kind of visibility was never matched again......

    yes thats why I dont buy some of these climate projections of us averaging 3 100 degree days by 2050.....it will be untolerably humid and air pollution will become horrid (already has) but our highs wont rise all that much because of all the humidity and rain, the mins will be affected much more.....we'll have a Miami like climate.....they dont hit 100 much either. all the humidity and rainfall will blunt the high temps, but it will feel much worse than the dry heat of 1966 and 2010 did.

    2010 was actually a lot like 1966 (and both were part of the 11 yr cycle).....

    1966 was one of my all time favorite summers, although I was not born yet Just from a statistical perspective- hot and dry! The winter that followed would also be among my all time favorites, 1966-67! Nothing is better than hot and dry followed by cold and snowy!

    50s summers were roasting hot and featured 100s from June through August (and sometimes September!) Also lots of east coast landfalling tropical systems. I think there was a year in there when the northeast had 3 landfalling hurricanes?

    they must love not having to deal with all these vehicles on the roads and all their noise and pollution

    nothing wrong with AC- everyone should have it, just like everyone should have heat.

    I would rather have a warm November, they seem to be better for snowy winters.

    indeed, although we can all do without the flying mosquitoes...... I have planted flowers that attract birds and am really excited about how much they are around. and they sit in places really easy to photograph, good subjects for my new cameras Nikon P900 and Olympus OMD EM10 Mark 2 with the 75-300 lens.

    also had the most number of 90 degree days, along with 1993. 2010 likely exceeded that, but for the foliage overgrowth at NYC.....

    what caused the extreme blocking in 10-11? was that an epo ridge? la ninas after el ninos tend to be really good (remember 95-96 also), but this winter was barely an el nino.

    it remains to be seen if we see that though, I thought the projections were for a weak la nina or even cold neutral?

    Each of the ocean basins is taking its turn..... is this retrograding and will it be the Atlantic's turn next? First it was the Pacific and then the Indian....

    Sounds like quite a few of our summers post 2013.

    one thing's for sure, the 2021 summer will be a true scorcher (it follows the 11 yr pattern.)

    Springs seem to have gotten a lot rainier. Saw a map today that showed the Eastern US has gotten about 55% rainier in the last 60 years.

    this is looking more and more like a warm and wet summer coming up rather than hot and dry. You dont often get a hot summer with such a high soil moisture content. Might be a 1996 kind of summer oncoming, really humid but not hot.

    1996 too, hottest weather of the year was in the third week of May after it had been record cold the week before.....
