With me it's usually either storms or winds. Sometimes even a single gust to like 30 mph is enough to shut off the power.

Thats very dangerous and why I have UPS set up in my house. Expensive electronic equipment can get fried when they lower the voltage. I haven't even listed the times that happened, but about 25 years ago, when I only used surge protectors and not UPS, one of my computers fried (literally, I smelled burning rubber inside) during an undervoltage event associated with a thunderstorm. And it's happened numerous other times not even associated with any bad weather at all, but I've always had UPS systems since that first disaster that I used my homeowner's insurance to pay for.

Yes thats why NYC and JFK were not close to 100..... if we do get a seabreeze next week, this area would be great for compressional heating as I'm about 2 miles north of the barrier islands.

I'm trying to remember all the most uncomfortable times my power went out. Number 1 would have to be August 2003 when we had that massive power outage that covered 1/3 of the country and eastern Canada. Our second longest power outage (behind the one that came with Sandy) at 13 hours. It was the hottest day of the entire summer (95 degrees) and no breeze even at night. I was too young to remember July 1977 but I think that would have been first if I had any memories of it outside of sitting in the dark with my family and hearing lots of sirens outside. Next up would be a 4 hour power outage we had in January 2018 I think it was. I was getting ready to see a total lunar eclipse at 11:30 that night and it was brutally cold and very windy and the power went out right after sunset and it stayed out until 11 PM. The high winds did it and I was freezing for hours without power. The wind came right into my house. Next on the list is November a few years ago (I forget the year), when we had 8 tornadoes in one day on Long Island. One of the tornadoes (an EF2) was close by-- I never saw it-- but had no power for 4 hours and was shivering all afternoon. The power came back around sunset. Next would be Sandy in October 2012 which was our longest power outage (25 hours) I was shivering all night. The next day wasn't so bad without any power all day, because it came back around sunset. Next is last August when I lost power for 4 hours again when it was sunny outside, no bad weather at all. It was in the low to mid 80s and with a light wind it felt hot without any a/c. Next would be March 2018 my power went out for 2 hours during the first of four noreasters that month. It wasn't as bad as the other ones I listed because the power came back pretty quickly.

Yeah infrastructure is not really political, I think everyone agrees that needs to change. Let's get the grid conversation now because in a few days none of us might have power to do it then lol.

1991 had a much hotter spring at least for us. We just don't get that kind of weather anymore especially in May.

I'm sure those 6 people who died in WV from the flash flooding would have loved that water to have sent to a future space colony..... No talk of insecticides because I'm armed and ready with my chemical weapons now. Because I just got my Bug Barrier and barrel and nozzle to do widespread spraying. As soon as this rain and gloom goes away I'm committing mass murder on all bugs. I have enough of these chemical weapons to kill everything off for at least 6 months. I'm spraying everything in sight starting Friday I'm going to laugh when you get Lyme Disease on your ass lol. Ticks love those warm moist spots.

It's not just that, people love exciting historical occurrences they can tell their children and grandchildren about, hitting triple digits is quite exhilarating.

100 degrees is just as exciting as 20 inches of snow. Most people are number geeks and love seeing exceptional numbers.

you're not going to get that with gloom and rain every day lol, you need record heat to get severe weather.

Must be more over the top heat, we had nothing here of note. I noticed Newark and Boston are mentioned but nothing about New York City or even Philadelphia lol. None of these recent heatwaves are anywhere close to the widespread heat we had in the past. I wonder why it's so difficult to get heat like we used to back when it reached coast to coast?
