@wolfie09, the article about the Trump passing the CARES Act as socialism is humorous. These are extreme circumstances and he most certainly needed to help people. I can't imagine the Democrat response if he hadn't done anything.

Biden "may be a moderate' but his Vice Presidential Elect certainly is not. Let's be real...Biden isn't going to be calling the shots.

I just feel so angry at this time.  And I do what therapists advise, such as pounding a pillow, yelling for a designated amount of minutes, taking a brisk walk.  I also feel frustrated, particularly when I skype or talk with extended family members that still say the virus is no worse than the flu and direct me to a number of fake news websites to prove their point.  The failure of political leadership to help ease a transition which could save many lives is also depressing.  What has happened in this country to make people so gullible and suspicious of science and facts?  Psychologists tell us that when we challenge a person's previously held worldview we are dealing with the fulcrum of the human mind and we seek out people and sites that will reinforce our prior assumptions.  Copernicus, Galileo, Darwin and Freud brought us new revelations about the universe and ourselves.  There are some who still think we never sent astronauts to the moon.  I've had both a scientific and theological background in my professional training and I respect insights from both fields of knowledge. But it grieves and angers me particularly wrt this pandemic that people cannot take a clue from the "greatest generation" who willingly sent their sons and daughters off to war and faced rationing of food, fuel, and other materials for the common good of the nation in a patriotic effort, and so many of us say this pandemic is not as severe as we think and quibble about wearing masks.

I work with three engineers in their mid to late 60s who the think same as I on this topic. 30 years from now I’ll be able look to back at how ridiculous this was and think the same. You guys have no grasp of numbers. 250k dead is a drop in the bucket. The lives being loss are generally out of the workforce and riddled with comorbidities. If we start seeing economies collapse the people dying from war and starvation won’t be.

So no, I’d be just as objective and my opinion of something with a 0.7% mortality rate would be the same. 0.1% when you remove comorbidities.
    Ridiculous.

Luke, could you please sign up for the politics sister board and come talk some sense to the people in the Covid thread over there? They don’t seem to understand large numbers and think 250k is the apocalypse

What if FDR had come out and ripped the governor of Hawaii for doing such a poor job defending the island, and told the American people the war would be over in no time with no sacrifice needed?  What if he told people that the rationing was imposing on their freedom and they should just go out and eat whatever they wanted?

    Would things have been different?

Honestly all of that would have been hilarious

Mid-20s to mid-30s is basically the most important decade of your life. It will set you on the path you are likely to follow for the rest of your life. You should be making major moves and rapid progressions in relationships, education, and your career. There seems to be a trend these days by some people to treat that decade as basically extended young adult party time, and I think that sets them on a less-fruitful path. Let me tell you that it is a real gut punch to suddenly wake up nearing age 40 still living basically the same life you lived when you were 23...

Just my take anyway, everyone is different in terms of goals.

Do you still have the same foot fetish you did in your twenties or have you moved onto classier stuff?

    Instructive storm for Tampa area.

The angle of approach and landfall north of Clearwater (Eta will come ashore around Crystal River or Cedar Key) somewhat echos the worst case scenario Hurricane Phoenix simulation.  That of course would be a massive Cat 4/5, and would bring a 30+ foot surge through downtown.  So obviously not apples to apples.

But Eta is a 65 mph TS and is bringing an impressive degree of flooding thus far.  This is not a typical angle of approach for systems here, with the wind and surge stacking and funneling up the Bay and rivers.  It’s easy to see how a major+ would be epically bad and likely catastrophic.

Oh man cat 5 hurricane Phoenix...I wonder if @USCAPEWEATHERAF knows about this
