Yes, that is why I am skeptical of the "warm weather is going to magically eradicate this" argument that some people have been making. It is a novel virus that nobody has immunity to because, well, it's novel. All I am saying is that you'd probably rather have it be 90/humid than having more moderate temperatures. Medical community will be learning a lot more about this no doubt.

I'm no doctor but to me, all other things being equal, it makes sense that warm weather would help slow it down to some extent. Factors arguing the other way are that this is a novel virus that is very contagious, so perhaps the dropoff rate in warm weather won't be as large as we see with other viruses. How far we are willing to go with mitigation in the coming weeks could also play a role.

The CDC basically came out and said that 8 week closures would be better than 2-4 weeks. Should schools go to that, then many may not be returning before the end of the school year. Does start to create an issue about whether final exams would be administered online.

I think it is easy to think what's the big deal when we don't have hundreds or thousands of Americans dying daily from this right now. But the whole point of all these measures is to try to reduce the likelihood of that. Could argue that we should be doing even more since restrictions are not consistent across the 50 states. You see what happens overseas when some places are too slow to react... it's not some theoretical thing, there is documented data on it.

My sister is going on a week long trip to the Caribbean next week. At least there have been relatively few confirmed cases in those areas so far. She is flying out of MDW and I am definitely a bit concerned about the period of time from airport to airplane. I can only imagine what the state of affairs may be like in this country when she comes back.

In some ways I'm not sure if it's a good thing that many areas are/will be having spring break soon. Lots of people aren't going to just hunker down in their communities... there will be lots of traveling and people taking the virus with them.

I am wondering if people are going to have the stamina to deal with this for a prolonged period of time. Not talking physically, but mentally. Almost everybody's life is going to be altered in some way or another.

Some of the info coming out is showing a reduction in lung capacity in some people who no longer have the illness. I would say it is still too early to know how prevalent that is or if it would be long lasting/permanent. You'd hope that full functioning would return over time.

Friend of mine works at a local clinic and passed on that 2 people came in with symptoms and are going to be tested.

Indianapolis schools are closed until April as well. Probably a good chance it becomes statewide as more cases are uncovered.

Italy is what happens when you are too slow to react. Their healthcare system is being pushed to the limit with no slowdown in sight. This is happening in addition to the flu, not in place of it... at least flu season will be winding down at some point.

Gotta admit I am a little more concerned than I'd usually be about catching this one anytime soon. Just getting over whatever the hell it was that I had. My breathing is still a tad off but there was a 1-2 day period when the shortness of breath was getting fairly uncomfortable.

Yeah I checked a few stores for hand sanitizer and it's all gone, and there aren't even any confirmed cases in northwest IN yet (have to think there are undetected people with the virus though given that this is a fairly populated area with major interstates running through). There were signs posted about rationing to 3 or 4 bottles per customer. I'd say time to tighten that up lol

Stuff is getting pretty crazy right now... like did you think you would live to see something like this? I have read about what was going on during the 1918 flu and we are quickly heading that way in terms of mass closings, public reaction, etc. Not comparing the actual diseases of course because covid19 tends to be milder in the younger/healthy population than that 1918 flu.

Just realized New England has a long thread about it. To tie it into weather... it will be interesting to see how the warming weather affects it. There is some evidence that maybe it's not spreading quite as well in warmer climates but it's still very much an open question. A lot of viruses are killed by UV light, so if this one also is and in combination with the drastic steps we are seeing unfold across the country, perhaps we can slow this down the deeper we get into spring/summer.
