Tornado Warning near Silver Creek. Velocity scan looks pretty impressive, wouldn’t doubt there’s a tornado OTG! -

Yep this ones done for. Nothing more than some steady rain today with an occasional clap of thunder and lightning. Not enough time to break into any sunshine to destabilize the atmosphere. Oh well at least we’re getting some rain. -

I think that’s all there was July 2017 when the Hamburg/OP tornado hit, along with one in Holland and one in Allegany Co. -

If they don’t extend the extra federal UI benefits the economy is gonna go into a total collapse like many thought it was going to when Covid started. Like you said I’m not saying continue the extra $600 a week because that’s a lot of money and a lot of people are making more on unemployment then they were working but they need to do something or many will fall quickly into poverty. The National average UI income without the added federal benefits is only $400 a week. Not many people can live on that and have money to still pump into the economy like they can when they are getting an extra $2400+ a month. Doesn’t matter to me as i am luckily headed back to work in August but for those who aren’t as lucky losing the extra $600 a week completely will be quite devastating. -

2.13” here. Very hit and miss on the downpours. Had a nice cell sit over my house for almost 45 min while 2 miles away was barely a sprinkle. Airport only got 1.21”. I swear I could watch the grass grow and everyone’s lawns green up right before my eyes this evening, it’s insane lol. -

I think there’s no chance NYC schools open in fall and I think there’s a slim chance WNY/Capital Region has schools open. The rest of upstate regions I think are a 50/50 toss up. Cuomo will announce his plans for reopening or not reopening certain regions for schools between August 1-7 -

Looks like they’re firing up just west and just south of you, that one that just fired up over Blasdell should give you a nice soaking soon. I think I’m going to be just too far N and E here to get anything but can even see the lightning from here in Amherst. -

It’s really not a big deal for places to upgrade their AC systems. They can just use HEPA filters which are readily available and not that expensive. They capture particles down to .0.01 microns in size and Covid-19 particles are approx 0.125 microns in size so its highly effective at filtering out covid 19. On top of that places can easily add UV lights into their ductwork to help kill any particles that somehow make it past the hepa filter which captures 99.99% of particles. Again another thing that really isn’t that expensive to do. I do agree that it’s kind of silly that only those certain businesses are required to upgrade their HVAC systems but other places like restaurants, big box stores, grocers, ect., are not. I think if we do not see a huge long term reduction in cases across the country (where we are back under 20k cases a day nationwide, or with increased testing we drop our National positive percentage rate consistently below 5 % which is the guideline on what is recommenced before a state even considers reopening things, we will continue to have restrictions in place until a vaccine is found and distributed to enough people for it to be effective. This is all if we don’t see surges of cases again with people from states with outbreaks don’t come here and start things going significantly in the wrong direction again, or we don’t see another surge in the fall in which case I can definitely see Cuomo dialing things back again though I don’t ever think we will go full lockdown mode again like we did in March-May. Unfortunately the restrictions are something that’s not going away anytime soon as much as we all want it to, we’re in it for the long haul and we just have to adapt to this temporary new way of life. -

Not sure if anyone here saw it but not looking good for Bills fans wanting to see a game this season. My main thought is if this is true and a New York State law, how would that be fair that we (assuming at least some other states will follow) are not allowed to have fans but other teams are. Seems like quite the unfair advantage and have to wonder if they would have to level the playing field and ban fans across the entire league. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.syracuse.com/buffalo-bills/2020/07/no-fans-will-be-allowed-to-attend-buffalo-bills-games-during-covid.html%3foutputType=amp -

I’m very sorry about your Mom and hope she can be as well, happy, and comfortable as she can possibly be. As for masks being not recommended before and during the beginning of the pandemic. It has already been posted on this forum numerous times that they were discouraging masks for the general public because there was such a shortage of them that even doctors, nurses, and other first responders couldn’t get them and the suggestion that they were not necessary to the general public was to conserve what little supply was available for those workers. It has been shown in many different studies if there is a large compliance (over 50-70%) of masks being worn it greatly can reduce the spread of the virus. I really don’t see what all the fuss about wearing a mask is about in places where social distancing is not possible. It literally takes 1 second to put on and after it’s on for a few minutes it’s almost not even noticeable anymore. If it could save somebodies life isn’t it worth it? Or does it not matter because you might be saving a life for someone you don’t know so it doesn’t effect you? I don’t mean you personally by the way just talking in general lol. -

That positive percentage increase is what’s so concerning considering how many more test are being done. You want to see it staying the same or even dropping as the number of test increase. Florida is up to 15% positive test when at the beginning of the month they were under 5% positive, and this is with the number of test increasing too. For comparison Florida had over 10,000 positive test today out of about 50,000-60,000 test preformed. New York is doing even more test at over 70,000 test daily and only has 500-600 positives daily on average. -

Good now the division won’t be a cake walk. Let’s have some meaningful dueling running QB games this season. Could see some combined QB rush records with Cam and Allen going head to head. Over under at 200 yds combined Allen/Cam per matchup this season? still think we take the Division at 11-5 and Pats get into playoffs now at 10-6. Think we win our home game against them and lose in Foxborough where before I thought we sweep them. -

Nice call, even Jamestown landed up being too far north. Models were awful with this event. Heaviest was between Erie and Pittsburgh. 0.09” here lmao. Not even a lousy 10th of an inch. The dry streak continues! -

Pretty nasty as that storm ripped through here. I’d say 40-50mph gust and the loudest boom of thunder, immediately almost simultaneously followed by instant huge flash of lightning and power completely out. This was right around 415 and power is still out. I think a tree or power pole must have been struck within a couple hundred yards of here. I peaked my head out and looked all around to see if I could see a tree split or any smoke if a tree/power pole was hit but couldn’t see anything. Hopefully power comes back on soon because it’s mighty muggy out. -

Don’t forget masks were in severely short supply until sometime in April. No one could get their hands on any type of masks not even doctors/hospitals. The state had to buy whatever masks they could at inflated prices as did many other states with some states even buying the KN95 masks from other countries just to have something. -

Was it overblown though? Or was it not as bad as it could have been because of the shutdowns/extreme social distancing at the time when the virus was the most contagious and had the highest Infection Rate in this part of the country? If we had not taken such extreme measures when this thing was raging through NYC and spreading rapidly across the NE would things have likely been much much worse? I’m not saying that it wasn’t overblown at all but it’s easy to look back now and say the measures that we’re in place were overblown because it didn’t turn out to be as bad as predicted/or could have been when in fact those things are possibly what kept this from being to the point we all feared it could be where these measures would have seemed justified. -

Nope it’s on the total opposite side of the garage, its connected to the rest of the house both downstairs and upstairs. Underneath our room is our family room and a small hallway with another bathroom. I really think it has to do with the cathedral ceilings (no attic) with likely poor insulation and the fact the the registers do not blow out much air compared to the rest of the rooms on the 2nd floor (not part of the addition). -

Yep exactly how my house is. My master bedroom is an addition put on about 15 years ago and has Cathedral ceilings so there is no attic. The only space in between the ceiling and the roof is the 10” gap which is obviously insulated but with what and how well it was insulated I have no idea. Our room is often a good 10 degrees warmer during hot days then the rest of the house even with the central air pumping non stop. The amount of CFM coming out of the 2 registers is so little it does next to nothing to cool the room. Hence why I bought a 12,000 BTU window AC. Thing works amazing cooling down our 20 x 25 foot room even with the tall ceilings (I know cold air sinks but it’s still added cubic feet that the unit must cool as air mixes with motion). Was only $350 at BJs but had to drive to Rochester to get it (on that 95 degree day last week) as all the Buffalo locations were sold out and even the Victor location I went to only had 2 left in stock. I’m not a fan of the look of window air conditioners especially from the outside of the house but it’s by far the easiest and cheapest solution to the problem I have. Strangely enough in the wintertime that room does not get much colder than the rest of the house so I’m not sure why it gets so much hotter in summertime. -

Had one. Left it out during the wintertime and the water that accumulated on the “stone” edges (really a thin set mixture textured to look like stone) landed up freezing and expanding in the grooves of the “stone” and cracked the surround. Was great when we had it , I just foolishly left it outside during the winter which was my mistake. Much more convenient than a “real” fire however it is nice to have the smell of a real fire especially with a good dry hardwood. -

Show me where cases are rising in NY. We have the lowest infection rate of any state in the entire country at 0.77 and cases are at their lowest number they’ve been at since the pandemic started and that’s even with testing 3 times as much daily now as when the Pandemic began. 50,000 test a day now in NY and only less than 2% in the entire state coming back positive daily. Some areas like the North Country only have 0.2 - 0.5 % of test coming back positive, and this is even with all the reopening taking place (their in phase 3 already). Hospitalizations and deaths are also the lowest they’ve been at since it all began in early/mid March. Sure other states are having surges but that’s because it took a long time to get to them, they’re just having later peaks then us, it just happens to coincide with them reopening since most of the country is opening up at the same time. Right now for a change New York is one of the safest states you can be in for Covid IMO, now that we’re well past our peak.
