Pretty good downpour here in Baltimore now!

Picked up .95" in that storm. It's also very clear that anything of significance that falls this week is going to cause immediate flooding. There was still a lot of standing water throughout the neighborhood this morning at 5AM even though the rain stopped before midnight.

Was weeding near my rose bush Sunday and must have disturbed a yellow jacket nest. Didn’t notice until one stung my leg and then saw 3-5 more on me. Took off running and ripped my shirt off. They followed me for 30-40 yards.  Only was stung the once but that was easily the most painful bee sting I’ve ever had. Still a bit red and swollen and itchy around the spot.

I'm glad you escaped relatively unscathed but I would have loved to see that.

  3. I was goofing off in the backyard trying to get some pictures of the yellow finch feeding on the cone flower seeds, but he wasn't having it.  The hummingbird wasn't interested in his feeder today either.  But being the great hunter that I am, I did eventually found some wildlife.

Be happy that I didn't post the fly pictures. They're kind of gross.

picked up another 1.25" from the storms on friday, bringing me to 13.69" for the month.

You're slowly catching up, and I won't mind at all if you pass me. I'm at 15.99" for the month and though I want to surpass 16, I'd be perfectly happy with 16.01"

I wonder how much of this bwi caught - I really want to go ahead and see the airport break the all-time monthly record now since it is so close.

.96” today as of the last update, and I think 16.39” for the month. Still need another 2”

Holy crap my train is southwest of Baltimore and I thought we were passing a small river and it was a cemetery. Headstones halfway under water :o

    That was a first...

Looking at the forecast, I'm releasing the pairs of animals that I collected from the garage this morning.

That map is definitely a bit underdone IMBY

I'm sure it isn't completely accurate and yes, I'd imagine that pink bullseye area should be filled in somewhat through AA county. And also probably overestimated in npz's backyard.

holy crow. almost 7" on Saturday alone?? I barely got 2" IMBY Saturday.

I've been tweeting a few things about the flooding up my way this morning. water rescue, couple roads washed out, and that's at the top of the gunpowder falls estuary. even worse down in Glencoe and some of the PA videos are unreal.

Yeah, most of that nearly 7" on Saturday came in about 2.5 hours starting around 9pm. Nonstop heavy rain.

Here are the rain totals past 7 days (and probably since Saturday for most of us).

I've only received 9.5 inches since Saturday (Frederick had its fun in May). What is crazy is that I've had 54.31 inches of precipitation so far this year. Frederick's yearly average is 40.59 inches. We still have 5 and a half months to go!

Man, that's nuts. Total here for the year is 40.54".

We gotta find a way to get BWI another 3.07” within the next seven days.

And do that without me getting any. ;)

It would be a shame to get this close and not beat it, so I'm in.

According to my local PWS, I've gotten 11" of rain in NW Baltimore since Saturday.

As much as I love extreme/unusual weather, I need this rain to stop! My local water table has risen to a point 3 inches below the top of my sump pit. My sump pump is unplugged right now because whatever it pumps out is just getting replaced by groundwater below.

I really hope the water table recedes a lot today before we get any more rain - I can't handle my finished basement getting flooded right now.

First year of owning a home and between this event and the wind storm that knocked down a tree in my backyard I'm going to go crazy from anxiety.

I know exactly what you mean. I am just up the hill from you and we have gotten 13.43". I may unplug my pump and see how high the water reaches.

    6.81" Saturday

    0.82" Sunday

    2.68" Monday

    3.12" Tuesday

    13.43" total

By the way, BWI is at 15.29" for the month.

But the all time record is actually 18.35" from August 1955. I think getting another 5"+ before the end of the month will be tough.

Lol. I'm blind and didn't see that. Yeah, that'll be tough to beat.

Think it's going to be hard to reach that simply because of the timing of this upcoming break. We could pick up a bit more tomorrow, but then probably not very much Thursday through Sunday, which basically takes us right into August.

Well, they are at 13.26" and only less than .60" away from the record, so I think they've got a good shot at it.

  15. 4 minutes ago, Fozz said:

If 13.83" is the all time record, then we're already within striking distance of it, and I think we'll easily beat it.

Yeah, they already broke the July mark and the all-time mark looks to be in serious jeopardy.

eta: well, there you go. Thanks, Yoda.

I don't know what this means, but ok? I mean, it has been raining on and off for days as forecast, with some significant amounts. As forecast. I have seen posts acting like LWX has been out of line for forecasting a lot of rain and for the FFW etc, and I don't agree with that. It appears to have been well forecast and has been a significant event.

He's being sarcastic and has been lightly trolling EJ all week.

3.67 inches since 8:00 this morning in Lothian, MD. Total since 8:00 am Saturday 16.43”. Areas of our farm are flooded that have never been in the last 30 years.

Ugh. And you may not get the break that we might get here later today.

Probably nothing compared to your problems, but this is my neighbors situation now. Her sump pumps cant can’t keep up.

Just curious- was her house built after 2008? That’s when the building codes started requiring sump pumps to be on GFCI. We had the same problem last year- fortunately we caught it during a minor event. It could work in a normal outlet but the GFCI outlet would trip. In our case, it really was the pump going bad so I’m glad the GFCI caught it. But it’s been a hotly debated topic as many times people get nuisance tripping. I see both sides of the issue though.

No, it's an older home like all the others in this hood. I think the problem is that she recently had an automatic generator installed which, ironically, is because she travels a lot and wanted to be sure that her basement would be safe if we ever lost power. So I think the new electric work messed her up. The company was over there again yesterday.
