I'm going to continue to temper my enthusiasm until I hear that HM and Don Sutherland are on board.

I believe this year will be the first winter with the new NWS Hazard Simplification (HazSimp) for winter weather products. No more Blizzard Watches, instead everything will originate from a Winter Storm Watch then either a Winter Storm Warning, Ice Storm Warning or Blizzard Warning.
I posted a NWS survey in the banter thread yesterday regarding something similar to this, but I understood one of the options to be for everything that ends up being warned, it would come from a general Winter Storm Watch, then go under the classification of Winter Storm Warning for X. The X could be for blizzard conditions, accumulating snow, mix, or ice accumulations. I'm assuming they'd still have the advisory for storms that don't meet the warning criteria, but the idea is one warning for winter events and eliminate Blizzard Warnings and Ice Storm Warnings.
I think that several Great Lakes weather offices have already discontinued the Lake Effect Snow Warning and now just use WSW.

I'm not sure who has seen this, but the NWS is considering consolidating their winter storm warning products. For anyone that's interested, you can give your thoughts in this survey.

The fall color is making a very decent recovery in the Columbia area.

0.91" here with a little left to come, but with 2.70" for the month, unless something unexpected happens between now and next Thursday, this will be my first below normal month since we were in that big drought last winter.
eta: That was sarcasm.

Not a forecast. That map is average. They will release their forecast tonight during the 11PM news.

Two months and 20F colder from now and today would be super exciting. High cirrus thickening up, light wind, and a big old storm brewing.
The only thing better than Christmas snow is Christmas Eve snow!

Fall color seems to have taken a noticeable step in the last few days. Not moderate color yet, but I think we’ve certainly left “spotty” color behind.
I noticed the same thing today. I'm hoping this fall is still salvageable and that this weekend's breezy rains don't mess up our already lower chances of some good color.

He nearly missed that 31 yd FG earlier. I had a feeling too. Hey he was the only kicker never to miss an extra point since they made it longer. He was due. Really bad timing though lol. Reality is, Drew Brees would likely have performed more surgery on the Ravens D in OT. Jimmy Smith was putrid today.
Apparently that's his first miss in his NFL and college career. Pretty impressive so I'll still eat Royal Farms chicken.

My girlfriend is a Ravens fan and is mad at me because I said Tucker would miss the extra point and he did. And then I said the Cowboys kicker would pull an Ali Haji-Shank and miss to the left.
I'm also walking up to the local bar and getting a mega million ticket.

Dang. I wish I had known about that. I’ll definitely put that on next year’s calendar

I think Michigan St vs Michigan delayed for lightning during snow. Meanwhile, Illinois at Wisconsin is being played in snow on fox.

Some of us still underestimate the radiational cooling of Richmond. BWI got down to 35 this morning, DCA to 43, and RIC to 38. For DCA to hit 32, they almost need an arctic blast, while RIC can do it with the passage of a mid-fall cold front followed by clear skies and calm winds.

I am going to pick the analog that best fits winter once winter is over. Can't lose by doing that.
I think this winter will be just like 2018-19, but what do I know?

Regarding the forum discussion, in college, I liked snow. I still like snow. If you ask me if I have ever seen a whiteout, I'll reply, "Have you?!?"
Regarding the beer discussion, my local beer Jesus (if you saw him and spoke to him, you'd understand) suggested the Yeti Imperial Stout, now in six packs instead of four packs at a reasonable price, or the seasonal Sierra Nevada Narwhal Stout. I went with the Sierra Nevada because it is seasonal and I think they are an under-rated brewery. Also reasonably priced and good.
On the homebrew front, I'll be legging my imperial pumpkin ale this weekend and it'll be ready next weekend for anyone that wants to stop by and not talk politics. There's also a New England IPA and a cream ale on draft.

I read somewhere that because of all the rain that colors will be muted and trees may drop leaves more quickly than usual.
That being said, I'm always astounded at how beautiful fall is in this area regardless of the weather, so I remain optimistic that we will get a good show.

Mitch joined Phillywx this month and has started posting there. That makes me sad
It's none of my business but now that's he posting on a different weather board, I have to admit that I'm intrigued as to why he left here.
