OK, so we agree deaths that are not test-confirmed COVID are being coded that way. Glad we found that common ground. You say it isn't everyone. OK, got it. But it's some of them.

You don't work for the NY health department or create these numbers. Probable COVID deaths is exactly what I am talking about. There is zero way for an EMT to inspect a dead body and determine it was COVID that did the deed. But you just acknowledged some of them at least are being coded that way. Point proven.

Murkier than PA where they suddenly removed 200+ from the death rolls, MD where they hid the nursing home numbers until this week, or NYC where they are cataloguing every dead person found at home as COVID-related without a test? Seems to me gaming of the numbers is rampant from all directions.

Have we seen huge spikes in infections from FL and TX beaches? Why would we expect MD beaches to somehow be more dangerous? Doesn't seem logical.

The overall picture is that lockdowns do not really reduce transmissibility in a meaningful way (if your goal is "ending the outbreak" like many governors), and reducing lockdowns does not create the mythical enormous spike in deaths people expect, probably because many, many more people are already infected than we realize. The only way out of this disease is herd immunity, naturally and maybe vaccine-aided at some point. All we are doing is destroying our economy to achieve the same end goal.

The lockdowns are not really working to stop the spread, which is why you are still seeing new cases coming in at a consistent clip. This is going to continue until we get to 70% infected and herd immunity takes over. Could take 2 years at this rate while our economy goes down the drain. That's why "daily new cases" is a poor metric for any policy decisions. But this post will get removed soon so read it fast!

I don't believe a single thing coming from China on this, and info from the Chinese branch of a megacorp like Starbucks is no exception. It's certain Starbucks would not even be allowed to do business in China if they spoke out about COVID there.

Thank god COVID takes the weekends off to give us a breather! I'm sure these stats have nothing to do with hospitals having fewer staff on hand and public health officials being off until Monday. Phew.
