Yep, that 5 inches he measured in mid-October really put him over the top on this analysis. I have noticed that his measurements are super-accurate to the point that it doesn't always reflect the sensible weather on the ground, if that makes sense. In both of the 5 inch storms for Randolph so far things were so stretched out and marginal there was never more than 3 or so inches OTG at any given time.

On the very short Randolph data set, it's about 70% I believe last time I checked. Only 11 years however so not really definite. Certainly well-within normal to be bare on Thanksgiving. Looks like there might still be a chance for NNE this year. The forecast around Turkey Day looks like a mixed bag mess setup. Will need to see which way it breaks. There are several little events on the horizon that all have marginal temps. We could exit the next week+ period with a few inches of snow in the books or nothing but chilly rain.

In my large house with a lot of property without having to really go anywhere unless I want to. Nothing worse than people like me telling working stiffs they need to give up their jobs and stay home, or else they kill grandma.

Those of you assuming restrictions are being lifted fairly early in 2021 (spring/summer) are basing that assumption on (1) the majority of people choosing to receive the vaccine and (2) the government deciding they don't care if a bunch of people skip the vaccine and drop dead of COVID. I think those are very flawed assumptions based on what we have seen the governors do over the last six months.

With a virus with a survival rate at 99.7% (and even higher for those under age 50), is that all that surprising?

We don't need to debate it here. I am a cynic and a bit of a conspiracy theorist when it comes to govt power. We will see what happens. Fingers crossed I am wrong for everyone's sake.

I had a few small chairs from an outdoor dining table blow way into the woods too, I just noticed. Crazy how they managed to get through all the columns and obstructions to find their way into the field. The wind is relentless here when it gets going. It swirls too which is part of how this furniture managed to escape I think. Time to clear the decks. Lesson learned.

I am just not convinced that mother hen govt is simply going to let people "make it their own problem" if they don't take the vaccine. Does that sound like something Cuomo, Newsom, or Whitmer would say? LOL well, maybe Cuomo.

I am someone who has always been fine with a national ID card. Probably just because my job means the Feds already know everything about me, and I already carry a Federal ID anyway. I would be fine with that ID having info about my vaccination status, if I so choose. But I know that isn't the answer for the vast majority of people and would lead to terrible govt overreach. I think what you and will said about it being based on a timeline and availability widely is the only way to handle this.

I think anyone who wants the vaccine should be able to take it, but once you take it the restrictions need to be lifted. That's the tradeoff. The virus is very, very low risk to most people. Asking them to take a vaccine requires something in exchange, IMO. That's having their old freedoms back. I also don't think shaming people for being scared of this rushed vaccine and calling them idiots is fair either. There are reasons to be wary about how this has been developed and will be rolled out. The damn liberal governor of NY and VP-elect are saying the same thing. It's not just a fringe weirdo viewpoint. I personally would take the vaccine if offered to me. If only to calm a few of the older folks in my sphere who are very scared of the virus. I don't expect it will be offered to me for a long while, however.

I am fortunate that I can hide out from the virus in style. That's why I am not being a massive hypocrite demanding people who have to work with customers every day shut themselves down and destroy their livelihoods to make me feel even better.

Government one-size-fits-all broad brush mandates tend to work like that. Everyone ends up unhappy with the generic committee solution.

My outdoor furniture keeps doing weird shit. That swing was on the deck area in front of it, but somehow pretzeled itself out over night. Time to bring that all into the barn, obviously.

I'm sure inserting bits of genetic material into our cells to program them to fight the virus won't lead to anything but sunshine and happiness for all. You'd have to be some kind of idiot to not be lined up first to get that shot after a lengthy and robust six month warp speed development effort by a company desperate to be the first to patent a working vaccine no matter the cost.
