I’m not a jackpot guy but the fact that its so cold is a bit of a bummer because I’d have days of drifting here with more fresh snow. 1.9” on the board, in the old days it would be boarderline plowable as 2” was the threshold until the rules changed after the Martin Luther King 94 storm debacle.
What was the debacle in 94?

The GFS was pretty awful for the event in mid December last year, though this event bares no resemblance to that one.

1/25/00 was another one but 22 yrs ago models were not as good...
I thought that wasn’t depicted as a hit at all until it arrived.

I just hate the fact that the one storm that wasn’t too far south or east for this area was an inland runner (January 16-17). Still plenty of time for things to turn around though.

That 2015 storm prob had the sharpest cutoff I’ve ever seen. 1” of fluff here while 15 miles to my south had 18”
I think you mean 2016.

Neat. It would be interesting to see some stats from other months that winter or during that general timeframe.

Pickles gross me out.

Euro seems pretty bullish on snowfall totals north of the Lehigh Valley. I guess they're called clown maps for a reason.
-
Some past storms being referenced (particularly March 1994) still had a decent amount of snow not far north and west of the city. At this point I would assume it’s still too early to consider possible analogs?

Time to move south… wouldn’t have to deal with this cold.. who agrees
I hate it more when it feels like a steam bath outside for a good portion of the year honestly. That's why I would hate to live in the south.

Tuesday could be the coldest day in quite a while. I think the last time I had a high in the teens was during the winter of 18-19.

Greenskeeper sure does like to weenie everyone.

This is the case with many of our big ones to some extent (with the storm trending north significantly a few days prior).

No way ? , I had 14.8 inches that year in butler nj Morris county . Few times we had grass covered in that pathetic year
We were a little too far west in the early December storm that year and only got about 2". I think my biggest event was 2.5" otherwise.
-
2.5" here. Congrats to those who overperformed today.

If this one somehow covers the lawn completely, which usually takes 2.5 to 3 inches I'll consider it a win. It's 50-50 where I am in Orange County if that even happens.
I went the entire winter of 19-20 without having the grass completely covered even once and I live in NW NJ.

1"/hr for 24 hours. Meh
I was under a death band the afternoon of the 2016 blizzard that gave an area from Allentown, PA to NNJ 6-8" in about 2 hours. Was it really only 1" per hour there at the height of the storm?

I would gladly take 25 and sunny over 40 and dreary.

December 1966 was a dream month in the Lehigh Valley and NW NJ. How can you top three 6"+ events and a KU on Christmas Eve?

It had good modern looking color maps of snow totals mat have been associated with NOAA
Maybe the Northeast Snowfall Impact Scale (NESIS)? Otherwise I’m not sure.

Lost my link that had individual storm snowfall total maps for the northeast that went back through the 60's at least anybody have a clue?
I’m not sure but xmacis2 is a website that has snowfall totals (seasons and individual storms) for both first order stations and coop stations going back to the 1800s.

I mentioned that using analog years from 25-60 years ago is useless because of climate change but it got dismissed by the usual suspects. People who love cold/snowy weather will downplay most anything that doesn't give a signal of cold/snowy weather.
I love a cold/snowy winter but I long ago accepted the reality of climate change.
Would warm winters from that long ago also not be applicable as analogs?

This was one of my favorite lower end warning events of recent years. It was just a wall of snow approaching the region. That morning it was pretty obvious it would be a positive bust.

Even here in far NW NJ it’s been a pretty humdrum month and a very sub par winter. My biggest event so far is 3.7.”
