The 1955 and 1977 summers weren’t really that hot compared to recent standards. But the 1955 was much warmer than 1977. The summer of 1977 was mostly remembered for the famous 9 day heatwave in mid-July. JJA 1977 only finished +0.6 relative to that cooler era.

Isn't 1955 the record holder for 95 degree days though?

Every plant and tree is pretty much fully leafed out down here. The last real cold/freeze here was March 11-14. Its been 56 days here since my last below 32 temp.

You weren’t below freezing on March 28?

Right, the humidity will save us from hitting triple digits as often but we'll continue to see more 90s with higher dews

As someone who hates humidity but finds temperature extremes interesting (like a couple of days of upper 90s+), that’s pretty disappointing.

IF (and a big if) the latest 18z NAM is to be believed Monday's currently forecast of a sub-freezing high temperature here in Chester County would mark the latest day in recorded weather history that the thermometer failed to reach 32 degrees in a calendar year! The latest sub-freezing day in Chester County was the 32 degrees back on March 26, 2014.

I am not sure of what the record latest sub freezing low max is at PHL or other locations but....something unusual especially in our current warming cycle at least out here in Chester County!

There wasn't a sub freezing day in April 1982?

Yeah, March 2012 was all about consistently above normal temperatures with Newark going +9.2. But there were only 2 daily record high temperatures and the monthly high only reaching 79°. The warm up in late March last year was more impressive with Newark reaching 84°. The most extreme warmth in March 2012 went to our west. International falls was +14.6 for there warmest March. I believe it was the only time that a U.S. station recorded 10 record daily high temperatures in a row. But several of the days were already surpassed in recent years.

Allentown also hit 80 that month.

  6. 2015 and 2017 were recent snowy Marches that I don’t believe featured a -NAO. 1967 was also an old snowy one that didn’t have Atlantic blocking either.

And didn’t the March superstorm of 1993 have a poor Atlantic?

Winter 2013-14 doesn't get the respect 1995-96 or 2009-10 do, maybe because we didn't have a true HECS. But man, it just wanted to snow that year! Like Iceman, I really can't remember a specific storm. All I recall is we were tracking non-stop that season.

Drizzle, 44F with a dense fog advisory.

February 13 was pretty big for interior areas that year.

When was the last time we had a heavy snowfall from an overrunning event?

    2003 was the ultimate example.

    Maybe November 2018?

Seems to be going extinct like the Alberta clipper did.

I loved November 2018. It wasn't huge, but it was a widespread 6-9" over a pretty large swath of land. The snow came in like a wall that afternoon.

I’m still not comfortable with any area in our sub forum referenced as the Mid Atlantic. When you look at the geography of the East Coast of the United States it’s just so far from off. You could maybe call the southern quarter of New Jersey the northern most extreme of the mid Atlantic and it would run down really through Central North Carolina.

Weve had this discussion here before too So it’s probably pointless to bring it up again. Yet I did.

I would say climatologically the Mid Atlantic starts south of Trenton roughly.
